1  eHam Forums / Licensing / Tech+ upgrade to General = Written Exam only? on: August 10, 2000, 11:52:55 AM
Never mind.  Found my answer, and I'm glad the answer is YES!
2  eHam Forums / Licensing / Tech+ upgrade to General = Written Exam only? on: August 09, 2000, 03:08:38 PM
I currently hold a Tech Plus ticket.  (I upgraded from Novice in '91).  Now, it appears that a General class ticket only requires 5wpm code.  Does that mean that for me to upgrade to General class would involve only the written exam?

3  eHam Forums / Misc / Legal age for ham?? on: August 08, 2000, 04:29:03 PM
I was monitoring a conversation earlier today, and someone mentioned he'd chatted with a 9-year-old girl with an Extra class ticket.  She apparently came from a family of hams, and being around it all the time, she was able to pass the exams.  Go figure!

4  eHam Forums / Misc / Operating in Mexico on: August 08, 2000, 04:07:35 PM
Does anyone know if there are any restrictions for operating in Mexico (not working Mexico from the U.S., but being physically in Mexico and transmitting either on an HT, mobile, or base rig, or operating on equipment owned by a Mexican citizen on Mexican soil)?

Just curious, and I couldn't find anything on the FCC web site.

Thanks!

5  eHam Forums / Elmers / Reclaiming a prior call on: August 08, 2000, 03:58:24 PM
Hey, that wasn't so bad!

I popped an email over to William Cross & he said there'd be no problem reclaiming my WP2 call, even though I'm not in the Virgin Islands anymore.  Since it once was mine, I can claim it again for the low, low price of the $14 vanity call fee.

I used the online form, and hope to have a response by day after tomorrow.  (They quote a 44-hour turnaround time.  We'll see.)  If they do what they're supposed to, and I did what I'm supposed to, my call will be WP2AHG by end-of-week.

Thanks for your help!

In 1991, I got my Novice ticket in St. Croix, USVA - WP2AHG.  When I moved back to Texas, I upgraded to Technician and opted for a new call.  Now, I find myself wanting to reclaim the WP2 call, partially because of its uniqueness, and partially because I'm feeling a little nostalgic about the island.

My 10-year license cycle is almost up anyway, so I thought this might be a good time to reclaim WP2AHG.  Can anyone tell me which forms need to be filled out, and what the process is for taking back my previous call, and for renewing my license?
