I also have the Butternut HF2V vertical. It is ground mounted with 20, 1/4 wave radials cut for 80 meters. Can work anyone I hear easily. You can also bend the radilas around to cover your area. As for the DX radial plate. I would put it right on the ground, not above it.

The only time I had that type of noise was from my computer power supply. Turning off the computer was not enough. I had to pull the plug from the back of the computer as well. Once done it was very very quiet

Check your installation dimensions. Last time I had that problem the length of some parts of the antenna were wrong in places.

24  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / AL80-A Help Needed With Repair on: December 30, 2005, 10:28:45 AM
Short in the tranformer from one of the primaries to the secondary. Ordered the replacement from Ameritron which quite a bit heavier built than the original transformer. All is well.
Thanks to everyone for there input.

25  eHam Forums / DXing / South Sandwich Islands (LR5U) on: December 25, 2005, 05:32:41 AM
Reads to me like they are in Argentina. South Sandwich is way up there on the Most Wanted List. If they were there it would be a huge DX affair.

From QRZ website for LR5U

How is your station grounded? Such as length of ground leads, type and depth of ground rods etc.
29  eHam Forums / Elmers / icom 718 to heil mics?? on: December 18, 2005, 05:10:46 AM
You will like it. I used the icm on my 718 as per Bob Heil's advice and it worked perfect. I also used it on my 765 and now on my 751A.
