Add the two radials for now to see. My vertical has 60 quarter wave radials cut for 80 meters. I would try raising the top element to make it a little longer. Put the coil back to spec and pull out the top vertical piece and take a measurment. Thats how I tune my vertical.

eHam Forums / Elmers / Italian Stand-by freq. on 14.195/usb

What this guy means is that the Italian stations sit on this frequency and deliberately qrm's dx stations. That would be like trying to work a dx station here in N.America on 14.195 and having a station in the next state occupy it all day long or come up when the dx station keys up. I would suggest getting hold of some Italian stations and see what there take is on it. If it is loud for you it will be booming in on them and no DX.

First Dx was a ZF station from Cayman Islands running 100 watts to a dipole on 75 meters. Had to look it up on a map as I had no idea where that was.

The Korean staion probably worked a perfect double where his breaks in transmitting and your answers to another staion, were perfect timing to seem like a contact. Tough luck if he is not in the log.

it was fun to play with but under crowded band conditions it was a poor performer. There was always issues with the transmit power and the type of mic you used. I don't think ten tec even updates the software for this model anymore.

Be sure the total length of each element is the same as the instructions. It is not so much the length of each section within the element. But the total length as a whole must be correct.

I had a 718 and I was very pleased with it. It is one of those radios that Icom puts out that turns out to be a gem. Great receiver and transmitter as well. I dx on 75 meter ssb and it had all the punch and selectivity I needed. I have used Tentec equipment for the past 5 years and then picked up an Icom 718. It does have sub menus as mentioned but not many. Everything you need is right there or just one button push away. What a great little radio. I would not hesitate to buy another

eHam Forums / Station Building / Would two ham stations on the street be a problem?

I am looking at a piece of property in my town. There is a ham on the street already, about 1500 feet away. He is active on HF and has a tower and beam pretty much the same as mine. Would I have interference or receiver overloading problems with him being so close? I know the gentlemen and he is a pretty good guy. Jeff
