Agreed- it is not usable for any band except 10M unless you build up or buy a set of low pass filters for each band and have a means for switching them in. Without the filters, it's a non-certified harmonic generator. RM also has a penchant for rating output power at 2X what it should be in order to be clean. If you want to use it on 10M, the manual is on-line. Google found it immediately. Dale W4OP

Does anyone have a feel for how much delay between key and sidetone is tolerable or comfortable for a competent CW operator? Thank you in advance.
Zero for me also. I can't imagine why there would be any sidetone delay in a rig. Dale W4OP

I'll just add that none of these amps have band by band low pass filtering (thus the lack of a bandswitch). So unless you add the appropriate LPF's you can count on hearing from an OO or the FCC. Unfortunately, these amps are flooding the amateur market and few buyers have the knowledge to discern what they are buying.

Thanks all. I added several to my Newark order and they and the recap electrolytics arrived the next day. While I await the X-Lock VFO stablizer, I continue to be amazed at this rig. I like it much more than the SBE 34. Dale W4OP

Looking at a photo, I am guessing it has 1KHz dial calibration? The book says it has selectivity from 8KHz all the way down to 100Hz - How does CW sound with the narrow filters? I also see they made an LF converter and a spectrum display- those pieces have to be beyond rare.
I restored an SX-88 several years back, right down to a new silk screened front panel. Except for the nice full audio sound I thought the receiver was extremely mediocre and microphonic. And of course, dial calibration got more and more course as one went up in frequency.

Thanks for the heads up Greg. I was placing an order with Newark for electrolytics anyway, and they too carried the 8 position strip. I must say, I am really impressed by the 33. I previously restored a 34 and think the 33 is superior- certainly the VFO is a lot more stable and tracks very well. Except for the stainless steel front panel and cabinet the rig is all aluminum and light weight. Excellent construction. I am adding an X-Lock to make it even more usable on-air, but have had QSO's as is. I had not previously seen the thin little PL-500 finals- very cute. All in all, a nice little art deco rig and way ahead of its time.
The rig came to me as non working. After checking the P.S. voltages, I put the Spectrum Anbalyzer on and looked at the oscillators. No HF het signal. As all of the transistors are socketed I was able to check the HF osc device. It should have been a Ge PNP but some oaf had plugged in a Si NPN. I put in an RF Ge PNP device and the rig came to life. I'll have photos on my WEB site as soon as the X-lock is installed. Dale W4OP

My current restoration is the SBE 33 transceiver. One of the 8 position phenolic terminal strips is broken. This is 8 lugs that mounts to the chassis via lug 2 and 7. Any out there?

From what I can see, the amplifier in question does not have a bandswitch- thus it has no output filtering (except maybe for 10/11M). So in addition to the amp, be prepared to buy build a filter set and a way to switch them when you change bands.
