I'll assume you understand that because of absorption, 160M is a night time band. Here in the east the band is crowded end to end every night in the winter. Do you have a good RX only antenna? I use 2 reversible Beverages and hear a lot of EU activity at night also. Summer time, it's mostly stations east of the Mississippi I hear- but still a lot of them.

There were as many "Palomar" companies as there were CB amps. Who knows where they were made. The amplifier on H&Y is a "Palomar" by Texcomm- whoever and wherever they are. One thing is for sure- none are "legitimate".

Just a couple of thoughts. From a wavelength standpoint, even though your antenna was outside it still was likely very close to the noise sources. Secondly, unless you had effective eliminated common mode on your feedline (an appropriate choke/balun) your antenna was effectively not outside as the outer shield on your coax was then also part of the antenna and a portion of it is inside the house..

The legality of the CB amp, its spectrum purity and the FCC rules do not apply to the OP as he is in China! Does that not seem refreshing someone in China will buy an American made product?
I don't see anything on the H&Y site that is American made- what amplifier are you referring to? Dale W4OP

It is unfortunately a losing battle. These guys don't care about the IM or spectral purity of their emissions or whether the amplifiers are illegal. It's all about the cost. Ever wonder why so many stations- particularly the 10M SSB gang looks so horrible on a panadapter and sound even worse?

While I have not looked at the eggbeater, I always assumed (?) it was a pair of 1 lambda loops oriented at right angles and fed 90 degrees out of phase with one another. While 100 Ohm coax may be hard to find , 93 Ohm coax is very common- RG-62/U. You must obviously take the VF into account when you make the phasing line. Because the dielectric in RG-62 is a polyethylene tube with a spiral of polethylene to keep the center conductor centered, I would expect some variation in VF- so you would be smart not to accept the factory spec but rather to qualify the cable yourself.

.My high voltage is higher than specks like 40-50 volts,I thought more is always better.I adapted a heath supply.Could excess b+ cause tubes to cut off?I guess I'll get a resistor in there to back it down, maby in the supply there's a adjustable clamp type. ______________________________ I would run the rig at spec voltages. Remember, when these supplies were built, the A.C. mains were around 110VAC. Now they run 120 and higher. Measure your filament voltage- it is likely high too. That means more heat and shorter tube life. I built a bucking transformer for my vintage gear to reduce the mains back to 110 VAC.

I don't think you'll see any of the reputable antenna manufacturers using gamma matches for VHF let alone UHF. The uneven element illumination results in squint and there is considerable common mode on the coax. Those problems were the inspiration behind the Quagi design.
Look at M Squared, Innov, Directive Systems etc to see how to properly drive a UHF antenna.
