46  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: CC and R cops on: March 05, 2010, 12:04:04 PM
I love the CC&R Cops from the neighborhood next to
mine.   My street was built 22 years before their neighborhood was and has no CC&Rs.  One of their
HOA Cops came to my house a couple of years ago and
threatened sanctions against me.  I smiled politely
and said, "See you in Court."

A month later I was served with a law suit about my
antennas violating the CC&Rs.  I filed a demurer with a copy of my "Fee Simple" title and Deed.
I love watching lawyers who don't do their homework back peddle!

The CC&R Cop has since moved out of state.  I had threatened to sue the HOA for filing a frivolous Suit
to unjustly harass me.  Seems as though they now have a whole new set of HOA officers, including the VP who
just got his General ticket!

Is this a great country, or what?

What ham band are you going to be working that is
lower in frequency than 160 meters?
Just wondering why you would want a 160 meter trap.

48  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Building a Portable 2 Mtr Repeater on: February 26, 2010, 12:10:19 PM
By all means, FULL STEAM AHEAD!!!
I have a copy of the May,2009 of the Southeast Repeater Journal that shows 23 repeaters in 8 different states.

If all you want is about 8 mile range, use simplex.
Our local VHF ARES net covers talkies at about 5 miles, 25 Watt++ mobiles at 25+ miles and 50 Watt base
stations at distances that still amaze us.

You can double the range of any talkie just by replacing the rubber ducky with a 1/4 wave whip.

Portable repeaters are just something else to break
when you least expect it.

49  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Why is it . ???? on: February 17, 2010, 09:40:25 PM
The "theoretical experts" that believe that capacitive
coupling is better than a direct connection have neither theoretical knowledge or empirical knowledge.
Arguing with them is like teaching a pig to sing.
What you get is an irritated pig and nothing that
resembles music.

I have always wanted one since I was a kid.
However, getting back on to topic, you may do better if you re-post this in the "Classified" section.
Good luck on your search.

Dan;
N6AJR, the young whipper-snapper, has given you a new Lish on life!
To sum up what Tom said, there are still places in this hobby where RESISTANCE is not futile!!!  :-)

You might say that the elements in a fan dipole that
are not anywhere close to resonance and could be approaching inifine impedance--would be like
holding up a "NO ADMITTANCE" sign to the fire in the wire.  (That was supposed to be another bad pun!)

52  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Kenwood TS2000 Driver Substitution on: February 17, 2010, 12:57:46 PM
The feedback is degenerative and will reduce the tendency for oscillation.  You may need a little more or a little less capacitive coupling to get the desired result.  You have an unknown variable with
your driver transistors and that causes the capacitor
values to become what is known as SAT parts.
SAT stands for Select At Test.
This is just a part of the great continuum of "Life
sucks and then you die."
Nobody said this would be easy. Now you see why repair
shops get the big bucks.  When you are the one earning those bucks, they do not seem so big!!!
Another part of the above continuum!
That is what is so fair about life: Everybody gets some of the vacuum! ;-D
That is also why they can repeal the law of gravity---
The world sucks!  :-P

Join this Yahoo User's group for the Kenwood TS-2000
and ask your question there.  It is a worldwide TS-2000 specific group and I believe someone there has
the answer to your question.

Alan;
Not to worry.  Some people would not be happy if you lynched them with a brand new rope!

I would say that your antagonist has been properly
diagnosed and summarily dismissed as a crack pot.

PS. Say hi to all of the little green aliens out there in Roswell for me!  ;-D

I live in a rural area of Georgia.  I am surrounded by
farms and livestock.
The other night I thought I was about to be brought into that Royal Order.  About midnight I heard this
terrible noise, "WOOF!  HONK!  WOOF!  HONK!"
This racket kept up into the wee hours of the morning.

After breakfast my neighbor's young son came to the door and apologized for the disturbance and explained that his parents had just bought a Border Collie.
At midnight the Collie decided to start herding their flock of geese.  "WOOF!  HONK!"

Needless to say I was grateful to that little ready snitch for that information.

Cecil, Owen, Steve and Tom;
I am glad that there is a thread that has gotten all of you to commune  with your Mu's!!!  ;-D

Of all of the things magnetic mentioned why has no one brought up hysteris?
And no, I am not setting up a pun about the thread going full loop!

Merry Christmas and a very  Happy New Year to all of you.

Such a shame that there is so little interest in this
topic!  ;-)
I grew up using WWII Comm gear.  I still have the rf
burn scars on my lips from using the old T-17 microphone to prove it!  BC-611's; BC-669's (A REAL
man's mobile radio!); SCR-522's, BC-348's; ART-13's;
And I am just getting warmed up!

See what you started, Laird?
A great thread, that's what!

73 and Merry Christmas to all!
