1  eHam Forums / Youth / Check Out CollegeARC.com on: August 30, 2009, 07:10:38 PM
eHam Youth,
www.CollegeARC.com launched early this morning to a large amount of interest. The website is geared to promote activity within college amateur radio clubs as well as promote collaboration between colleges. There are also many featured articles that are provided as a resource to all. Also, if you are not in college yet you may want to see some of the involvement of the schools you may be interested in.  We hope to provide a place for a strong community to be formed which helps get younger operators enthusiastic about amateur radio! Feel free to comment on articles and if your a student please join the community!  If you are active on Twitter follow us on http://twitter.com/CollegeARC ! Due to most school years starting up within the next few weeks, many clubs should be getting active again.  Please let us know what you think and congratulations on being involved in one of the greatest technology driven hobbies there is!

Sincerely,

Bryce Salmi KB1LQC

2  eHam Forums / Youth / CHSARC Callsign & Operation on: January 26, 2006, 03:16:50 PM
Hey Everyone,
I am here to say that as of January 23, 2006 the Chelmsford High School Amateur Radio Club has Officially received the club call sign of:

KB1NAY

We will use it tomorrow January 27, 2006 from around 9 AM or so (Due to finals at CHS we only have a few hours of school for testing)  Though I am not sure on the exact time we will be on.  I will try and let you know when I find out.  But we should be there past lunch at least.  So QRZ.com or ARRL the call sign if you want!  We will mainly be on 20M voice and maybe a few other of the daytime bands, so keep an ear out for us using our brand spankin' new call sign.  You also have the chance to talk to some of the up and coming young amateur radio operators!

Thanks es 73's

All,
I personally own two Kenwood TK-830G UHF Transcievers and a UHF Duplexer,  I could use a computer as a controller and have a repeater, so technically I already own one!  I just need to be able to program the Kenwoods, so if anyone has any info whatsoever about the programming cable interface for the TK-830's that would be a HUGE help!  This is an interesting idea for young amateurs.  It really helps them understand what their actually talking through too!

Thanks,
Bryce Salmi

The Chelmsford High School Amateur Radio Club (CHSARC) will be on the air today November 14, 2005!  We will be on with multiple High School operators from at least 2 PM until 3 PM (EST.) if not longer.  We will be on 20 Meters Voice CQing on 14.280 MHz.  If you want to have a QSO with high school students listen in!  We will be using the callsigns of KB1LQC, KB1LQD, KB1KGP, KB1MKW, KB1MGI, and possibly another.  We will be + or - for QRM.  We will be running 100 watts with a dipole so hopefully we QSO!

Thanks

5  eHam Forums / Youth / NEWBIE AND NEED OPINION on: June 05, 2005, 06:48:49 AM
Hmm... not the best at explaining this but let me give it a try.  From your post you said you wanted to talk to your staff.  HAM radio is a licensed operation to any person who passes the test.  one of the rules that we must know is that it cannot be used for money making purposes (some word lie pecunary or something i dont know how to spell it!).  that would be left to FRS or GMRS radios, not ham.  you can talk to them on the radio but on ham you cannot run a business with it or make sales (Unless its your own gear or something that you want to swap or trade or sell) so judging by your post it would be for communications with your staff, which to the best of my knowldge would not be legal.  But if its for your personal enjoyment welcome to the hobby!  Mabye somone else here can better explain what I am trying to say but hopefully I got the message accross.

GOod luck!

6  eHam Forums / Youth / Mt. Monadnock School Filed trip 2M simplex 6-3-05 on: June 02, 2005, 08:28:25 PM
To All,

Brent and I (KB1LQD, KB1LQC), are going to go on a feild trip with our High School Bioldogy class on June 3rd, 2005.  We will be bringing our 2M HT's, a portable J-Pole and our 440 Mhz HT's as well.  We will be setting up on the top on Mt. Monadnock (In Jaffrey, NH.   We expect to hit at least most of the New England area since we know people who have worked Connecticut on 1 Watt)  with our J-Pole and working .5 to 5.5 Watts on 2M simplex (146.520 Mhz) ,  We hope to work as many people as we can in the hour or so we have on top.  We could be on the Top of the Mountain (3,165 Ft)  from around 10 AM to 12 PM EST.  More likely closer to 11AM - 12PM.

We will most likely being working local repeaters and Simplex (446.000 Mhz) on the 70 CM (440 MHz) HT's on our way up, on top, and on the way Down the mountian.  THough, the 440 will only have a Rubber duck as compared to the portable J-Pole for the 2M HT.

Well, hope to work anyone who will be listening on 146.520 and 446.000 as well as any local repeaters, mainly the Hollis 440 and the westford 2M but we really are going to put the effort into the Simplex on the top of the mountain.  Remember, this is with about 190 other High School kids in our grade (10th Grade)  and most of them Including the teachers do not know we are bringing the radios so we should draw quite a crowd, HIHI.  Hey, mabye it will get some interested in the hobby!  well, other than that, hope to work many people and Good luck and have fun!
