46  eHam Forums / Elmers / Netting Xtals on old 2M fm rig on: October 02, 2010, 04:20:51 PM
Back in high school, when I got new crystals for my 2 meter rig, I would adjust the trimmers for xmit and receive.

Transmit....easy, use my counter
Receive....Well, here is the question....I used to have a zero center 25uA meter.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ONE IN THEIR JUNKBOX???   No telling where mine went...somebody probably borrowed it for this exact purpose.
But....why can't I just use today's latest greatest DVM on the current scale??
True, a meter is easier to watch and tweak...but I would think I just have to adjust for zero with an accurate signal generator on the input....Does this sound correct??

Thanks!!

Anyone have any recent knowledge on ordering crystals for old 2 meter rigs...Like a TR22?
I remember Jan, Savoy, International...but would bet many of them are out of that business...or out of business
completely!!

48  eHam Forums / Elmers / Morse Code Generator for PC on: September 30, 2010, 06:33:47 AM
For Cub Scouts soon, I may put together a morse..send/receive setup.
Does anyone know of a simple, dumb as dirt utility where if you push a laptop's  A button, for
example...it plays "dit-dah" out the speaker?

Or type a line of text and it plays it.

I found something like it for my ipod touch....but big pc keyboard might be better for little kids.

Thanks for any ideas!

52  eHam Forums / Elmers / Standard SR-C146A manual???? on: September 18, 2010, 04:27:33 PM
When I was in high school, this was the HOT radio to have...of course, I had a Clegg HT instead Angry
So...got one now!!    I'm sure most of 'em are busted, and only the owner's manuals are left!
Does anyone have a manual they don't need?
I tried the BAMA website, but no joy. Is there anywhere else to download from?
Thanks all for any tips!

53  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Drill a hole in cinder block wall with 8MM rifle. on: July 28, 2010, 07:40:34 AM
Just use a couple pairs of clamping pliers, and attache a piece of steel rod to the bumper of your pickup truck.
Get up to ramming speed and you'll pop a perfect fit coax hole in the cinder block!
EZ as pie!!
54  eHam Forums / Elmers / Portable op/battery case?? on: July 28, 2010, 07:27:34 AM
While I think I could find a gel cel with spade lugs on it...find a charger, make up a connection bar..etc etc...Wasn't there
a product for portable operation...something like the same, in a cordura case, with charger, connections etc...ready to roll??

55  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / RE: TS 2000 power output on: July 20, 2010, 05:25:56 PM
I more suspect something is being overlooked, than a bad rig.
Can you power supply run another (similar 100 watt) rig?
The connections are tight?

Does your wattmeter show 100 watts on another 100 watt rig with the same power supply,
coax, and dummy load?

Same low output with both key down CW as well as a sharp whistle on SSB??

After all that, it could be a belly-up rig!

Didn't you know about Radio Mart?
It is pretty common knowledge.

Hope it works out for you!

57  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: Digital mode keying on the IC-7600 on: July 10, 2010, 09:07:31 AM
So, I had my fun screwing around with this for an entire weekend also!!
I had to reinvent the wheel....had I done some research, I might have found
that it ain't gonna work!
It seems more advanced programs...where you select the radio model, can control the
radio completely..using CIV commands. (HRD, Commcat, most logging programs).
But, if you want to work WSJT or JT-65hf or many cw encoder programs, that rely on using
a com port....it won't work!   The program cannot key the radio.
So, you will have to go back to external box junk that connect to the rigs acc port for (at least) switching.
CRAP!!!   I thought the new wizz-bang USB interface would bury that external junk once and for all!!!
58  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Online topo maps???? on: June 08, 2010, 03:31:06 PM
But that selection will not let you download a map online....only purchase paper maps. At least that is how it looks to me...and you need the map locator to download.
59  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: Online topo maps???? on: June 08, 2010, 01:49:42 PM
so the store.usgs.gov site wants you to first look at a "map locator"   Man, I've tried 5 computers in my house....including an ipod running safari....none seem to be able to pull up the locator. Anyone else have same issue??
60  eHam Forums / Elmers / Online topo maps???? on: June 08, 2010, 07:02:50 AM
Many years ago, I purchased...all rolled up in a tube...topographical maps for the area surrounding me.
I have no idea where they are now...wish I could find 'em, but I gotta think this data is now available online.
Does anyone know a good (easy) site to view topo maps?
I looked, but came up empty.

Thanks for any suggestions!
