3  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: hd 73 controler bulb replacement on: October 30, 2011, 07:05:49 AM
First unscrew the two screws at the bottom rear of the controller, slide the case from the front towards the rear. When you look inside facing the front of the controller you will see the bulb on the left it is a bayonet style bulb holder, replace the bulb and reassemble the case.
Also note when the bulb fails it also shuts off the workings of the controller, if there is any other information you require send me an email vk2acm@gmail.com  73 for now...Clint
4  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: External laptop microphone to Signalink USB??? on: July 23, 2011, 05:55:27 PM
This last week I finally "got around to" interfacing a 2m radio with echolink to make a linked station.  My radio is a Yaesu FT-2900R, my digital interface is a signalink USB, and my computer is a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7, 64 bit.  I had a few issues with echolink and windows properly recognizing the Signalink, but after some trial and error, my echolink link seems to be up and running with clear audio.

Now for my question/dilemma.  I would like to be able to occasionally talk on my Yaesu radio, but the signalink ties up the microphone jack.  In order to do this, I have to unplug the signalink cable from the radio jack, and plug my radio mic into the radio. I know this is a rather strenuous process  Wink, but I got to thinking why couldn't I use the built in microphone in my laptop to convey the audio to the signalink.  This should activate the PTT circuit, and I would be good to go, and save myself the laborious task of hooking and unhooking my mic plug at the radio.  I've spent quit some time searching the web, and I haven't been able to come up with any software that can accomplish this rather seemingly simple task.  In addition, I would like to be able to use the spacebar (or another keyboard button) to act as a PTT switch, just like echolink does.

I'm just playing around here, and learning as I go, so I'm curious if anyone could point me in a direction?

Thanks much!

KB7FSC - Wane

PS (If its easier, you can call me on my echolink node KB7FSC-L, 610032)

Wane,
Have you thought of making a small switch box just to switch from the signallink unit to a standard microphone? Just a thought...
5  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / RE: HRD and Kenwood TS 850 CAT on: July 23, 2011, 05:50:19 PM
I can't get my TS 850 to connect to computer via HRD.  I have tried the If-232c box using both serial and usb adapter cables.  I also bought a specific cable for the 850 to usb that doesn't work.  I get Frequency=0 message.  I checked com port and speed settings, tried auto detect, everything.  Using Vista.

Anybody using HRD on an 850?

Have you tried using the TS450S model instead, as I have the TS450S and my homebrew interface HRD work's great for me, just a thought....
6  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / How to test AL 811 Power Supply Transformer? on: September 07, 2008, 08:29:42 AM
John,
If the main fuses are blowing as soon as you turn on the amp you might want to check your tubes as it sounds like you have a bad tube or tubes.
I had a similar problem and with alot of research and assistance from some experienced hams found a tube was creating the problem, you can also check the 50ohm resistors towards the left hand side of the amp when open.
John please make sure power is uplugged from the amp when working inside the unit.

I hope this has helped you out...73 Clint vk2acm/w5
7  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / TS-440 SCANNING ISSUE on: March 23, 2008, 04:42:07 PM
Make sure you have saved the memory to include this memory in the scan mode If I am not mistaken it can be in a memory channel but wont be included in the scanned channels section. Let me know if this makes sense I do have the owners manual and service manual for this radio....Clint

9  eHam Forums / HomeBrew / Computer to rig interface connection question on: December 03, 2007, 03:47:35 AM
Michael,
You might want to try and install a switch to switch between the interface and your microphone, This would save you disconnecting the interface. The switch would only have to be on the audio line between devices.

That all would depend on what band's your going to work. The monobander wont compromise for other band's other than what it is resonant for...Clint VK2ACM

Hi Steve,
Just a quick question, I have a question. What does the radio wattage produce on a good 50 ohm load such as a dummy load ? Just curious......73 Clint VK2ACM

Gary,
You might try this link below due to I agree that hams would like to build there own interfaces I know I have built many but with the low cost of the manufactured interfaces these days it is hard to beat, good luck and I hope this helps....73 mate from Clint vk2acm

14  eHam Forums / Digital / TS-450 & Signalink ? on: January 23, 2007, 04:18:09 AM
Hi Don,
I built my own interface for PTT. The other cables are just from sound card to the radio and from radio to sound card, check out the link below. It works great on my TS450SAT. I also downloaded a voice keyer program and the interface is used for that application as well, I hope this help's.........Clint

Hi Jon,
The replies you have received already are correct. I would also check the grid resistors I think they are labelled R19-R22 they are 51 Ohm 5%. There should be Three of them make sure that none of them are blown.

I hope that this helps and that you get your amp back ASAP....73 de Clint VK2ACM
