eHam Forums / Company Reviews / R & L Electronics (Roger) excellent service!

Just want post that R & L Electronics is an awesome place to do business with. Roger smallwood is the best in the business. I ordered a Yaesu VX-6R and acc's and Roger REALLY went out of his way to help me out. I sorta flipped out because I didn't see my tracking number on the site, the Monday following Easter. Turns out, the "feeder" trucks are off, the day after the holiday.
Anyhow, roger packed up an indentical order, in case the other was lost. Well, the other popped up and both were coming, and we were able to stop the second one. So, basically r & l ate the shipping on the second one. Not to mention, duplicate labor.
Needless to say, Roger and R & L will be getting my business again.
Good job guys! I recommend anyone do business with r & l and with roger.

eHam Forums / Misc / RE: New to HF and shocked by what I hear

Just an FYI....
There's always been a "bad boy" element to Ham Radio. There is a CD floating around that is called "The Best of 75"; Which has recordings on it from back in the 1960's. You know during "the AM/SSB wars" days. You be shocked to hear the stuff that went on. Although, it was quite tame, compared to the stuff you hear on there now.
The 80's were terrible. Especially during the 3.895 war says. Not to mention the stuff you used to hear on 14.313 back in the 1980's.
However, the stuff on 3840 at night, really makes me sad. How that goes on, is beyond me.

I have to believe that the local squirrel population were huddled somewhere, saying something to the effect of: ..."Of course, you know; this means war....."

Clif IS the real deal.......
Yeah, the real deal. Yeah, he fixed one problem. All while ignoring the fact that my button, that turns the processor off and on; had a short. This was AFTER I TOLD HIM, check everything out. It still ain't right. The warbling still happens. But I hardly shut it off, so, that it not a problem. Oh, there's more, but I won't go on here... I just did not like Cliff's attitude, and since I opened this thread, many, many, many people have called me to either say, "Yes you are right, he is like that!" or have caught me on the air and have thanked me for having the guts to speak out about his attitude, when it comes to dealing with people. Either way, I did my job here and now people know about him and his manners. I declare this topic over. You can use Avvid. But don't ever call him and ask him anything, while he is working on your radio. Otherwise, he will half ass repair it and send it back to you, half done. Period.73 de Chuck K8CPA

eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: 160 antenna using my 40 steel tower?
|

The "other half" of the antenna is the tower itself, and a 40' tower won't provide the kind of performance a taller tower would, but it may be worth a try especially if you don't have another 160m antenna. Do you have any other ideas for a 160 meter antenna? I do have limited space. As it is, the antenna that I use for 80-10, which is a kind of a G5RV, but is a little longer than the normal ones that you buy and is quite homebrew ---- barely fits in my backyard. One end of it, goes into the tree out front of the house. I was think half sloper, that way she'll, hopefully, stay in my own yard. Thanks, -Chuck K8CPA

eHam Forums / Elmers / 160 antenna using my 40 steel tower?

I have a 40 foot steel tower. I want to get on 160. I'd like to BUILD and/or buy an antenna to use for that band. IAC makes a 160 sloper: http://iacantennas.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_25&products_id=45The price ain't that bad. But, do I have to run something like that? Is there something I could build and get the same results? Let me know. I want to get on the top band, I've worked up there. I just need a signal! ;-) Also, anyone reading here a tower climber in the Detroit area? I have a vertical CH-333, 2,220 and 440 vertical with coax that needs to go up. it's a little chilly now, but I'd like to get that puppy put up and maybe get a 160 antenna for this wimter up too. Thanks, -Chuck K8CPA Lincoln Park, Michigan

Hmph, Now Eham staff are removing my posts.
Bunch of fascists on this site.
I've said my piece. I didn't break anything. The man didn't repair the radio to my satisfaction.
end of discussion.
I might seek legal action. For my money back. I am exploring my options as well. I'm also investigating his legal status on Business license and taxes.
But at this point, my mentioning it, will do what I intend it to. I will not let this go away either.

Further more, an honorable business man would offer to cover shipping down and back and repair it on his dime.
But I guess you don't do that...
lesson learned. I got the big problem fixed. rig runs good when it's on all the time.
just wish I'd sent it to Miles over at AES instead and paid 10 bucks extra.
Like i said, lesson learned.
back to FD operating.
