Hi, I just received a Comanche 1011D in a dead condition. I did manage to test all tubes and all test very good, cleaned everything up, sprayed pots and did get it to light up, but I don't get any receive out of it. Does this need a microphone plugged in it to receive? Any other pointers to get this thing to work would be greatly appreciated. Mike AK3RX

Sounds good but think of all the hams who studied hard to get to Amateur extra, do you just through them into the heep of no nothings. Besides you'd have every 11 meter yo-yo up here with us, there radio knowledge is limited, why would you belittle the amateur's knowledge. Just my 2 cents worth.

I would like to know if any of you have seen anything about getting your ht to work with bluetooth. I'm sure its on this site somewhere, but I can't find anything on it. I would like to get my Yaesu VX-150 to be able to work with my bluetooth device. Mike AK3RX

Is it just me or is there anyone else out there who thinks that Echolink is harmful interference. Everytime I get on to our local simplex frequency and get a qso going with some of the locals, I get that echolink sign on by a few echolink'ers. I think this in annoying and interferes with the ongoing qso. Although I don't think echolink is ham radio, I have nothing personally against it. I do beleive it should be used down on the digital modes of the band. I don't think it should be up with the regularly used simplex and repeater frequencies. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks Guys. I forgot to mention that the amp I have is used. I may have to check this thng out before I hook it up. Original owner says its working great. I'm a little bit confused about the ALC setting. The ALC input for the 756 pro 3 requires 0 to -4 volts - I'm not sure if the ALC pot has to be adjusted on the 811 or not to suit my radio. I want to make sure that this thing is working and set right. My 756p3 is brand new and I don't want to blow it up! Like I said before I'm very new to this amplifier thing and the instructions Ameritron gives you are very very vague. Mike

Hi Fellows I just acquired a AL-811, seems like just about everyone has one of these. I'm new to the amplifier scene and am a little gun shy about how to tune this. The directions that come with this are very vague. I am using this on my Icom 756 Pro 3. I understand that I do not need the interface with this rig like some other rigs need. I don't plan on running at max power. I just want to use this for ssb about 400 watts output. I would appreciate very much if any of you out there can give me some pointers before I load this thing up. I also will be using a palstar tuner inline with the amp. The antenna I'm using is a Hustler 6btv. Thanks - Mike

The yaesu ft-817, ft-857 and ft-897 supports cw break-in on all modes including FM. Just go to the menu and pick the ALL MODES in the cw menu.- Mike

Thats great that you have mastered the brass, but you fail to realize that there are a lot of older hams out here that can't send as well as they used to do. And a lot of us can't make time to cw on a regular basis. I'm an extra class ham and I can only get to cw once a week if I'm lucky, due to my busy work schedule. So I'm not the greatest, but I do make contacts. CW hams are a different breed, so try not to be too judgemental of other hams. Your a newbie down here on HF. Beleive me its a lot different than what your accustomed to up on vhf. Don't start out on the wrong foot. Hf is great and be thankful that you can make any contact while the conditions are not up to par. The whole idea is to have fun, nobody is here to follow a strict regiment. eHam Forums / CW / GRID BLOCK KEYER

I've been a ham now for about 4 years now and I must say I haven't had a better time in my life since I became a ham, especially learning CW. Its my favorite mode of communication. Up until now, I've been using an Icom 718 and bencher paddle for my contacts. I just received a Heathkit HW-16 and a few 40 meter crystals that go with it. The rig is in great physical and working condition. Unfortunately my straight key performance is not up to par as of yet. I would like to get this on the air a.s.a.p. I also have a Hallicrafters HA-1 keyer thats in great condition also (I use this to practice on). I was wondering if I can use this keyer on my HW-16. I beleive the HW-16 transmit via grid block keying as I was told. Would the Hallicrafters HA-1 Keyer be suitable to use with the rig or can anyone give me an alternative. Thanks - Mike

eHam Forums / VHF / UHF / Flakey tuning dial on Icom 551
|
on: February 28, 2007, 07:16:09 PM
|
|
Hi Gang I just bought an Icom 551 off of ebay and it was suppossed to be in "great working condition". Well needless to say "buyer beware". This thing is all over the place, whether I go up or down, it seems to just tune intermitently and jumps a few frequencies. It does seem to work a little better when I tune downwards in frequency, but If I want to tune up to another frequency I have to keep spinning the dial until I get to the frequency I want. I was wondering if anyone would know a fix for the tuning dial that just does not want to tune.
Thanks - Mike - KB3RMX

I am in the process of upgrading my power output to my Icom 746Pro and my Icom 718. I will be in the market for a tube amplifier, preferably an Ameritron Unit. I want to keep my output under 500 watts, as I live in a well populated area. My question is: Do amplifiers need to be adjusted internally to work with a specific transceiver, and can you direct me to a nice amp to consider? Also could I use the same amp for both of my radios?
