1  eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Amp For (2) 4-400A Tubes on: December 07, 2007, 05:56:54 PM
I received two 4-400A tubes that appear never to have been used and would like to build an HF amp around these.  I am searching for schematics and articles for an amp circuit for 4-400A tubes.

What do members of this forum recommend?

Some of the information available indicats 1500 watts from one tube, but I find it difficult to believe.  Maybe 1500 watts from both tubes, but not one.

I plan to use the amp in CW and SSB modes.

Any advice is appreciated.

2  eHam Forums / Clubs / SKCC CW Club on: October 02, 2007, 01:34:10 PM
The Straight Key Century Club promotes any manual or semi-manual method of generating CW, which includes straight keys, bugs, cooties, sideswipers, etc.  However, some accomodations have been made for members who can not operate these devices.

The SKCC club has three major operating activities each month;

Monthly 24 hour operating event - This occurs on the first day of each month from 0000z until 2359z

SKCC Straight Key Sprint - This occurs on the second Wednesday of each month from 0000z until 0159z

SKCC Weekend Straight Key Sprint - This occurs on the fourth Saturday of each month from 0000z until 2359z.  This is really not a sprint as it operates for 24 hours, but the format is the same as a sprint.

Other amenities include, a key library where members can "check out" a key for temporary use in their station, an SKCC QSL bureau for exchanging QSL cards with SKCC members (non members can use this to send cards to SKCC members, too), an SKCC awards tracking spreadsheet for club awards (Centurion, Tribune, WAS, and band endorsements), and an email list for members, too.

The SKCC Centurion, the official newsletter of the Straight Key Century Club, is published monthly, on the first day of each month and features a shack of the month photo, a key of the month photo, membership and awards news, lots of interesting articles, and a member roundtable where members can post almost anything.

If you are experienced in CW, if you are just learning CW, if you are interested in manually generated Morse code, if you want to have a lot of fun on the air, check out the Straight Key Century Club at http://www.skccgroup.com .

3  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / Hendrick QRP Kits - I GIVE UP!!! on: September 21, 2007, 10:58:16 AM
Sounds to me like it is time for you to visit Hendrick QRP Kits in person to either 1) get your refund, or 2) get the kit you ordered.  If you are not willing, for whatever reason, to do this, drop the subject and move on.

Life is too short to dwell on these things.  Consider yourself lucky to have only lost $24, according to your BBB compalint, not the $25 you state here.

If losing $24 to Hendricks QRP Kits is the worst thing that's happened to you, you're doing pretty damn good.

I use a Brother HL-1440 and get good results.  Your formatting software is the tricky part and getting everything lined up in the right places on the pre-printed QSL card.

5  eHam Forums / Station Building / Buried Coax Recommendations on: August 01, 2006, 01:09:54 PM
You will have a difficult if not impossible time getting coax around a 90 degree bend unless you use RG-8 mini.  Use two 45 degree bends about 2 feet apart and use a good line to pull the coax through.  I've coated the coas with Ivory bar soap to help it go around the bends.

I burried105 feet of 2" PVC pipe from my shack to the rear fence of my property, where my tower and HF vertical are mounted.

Contact Cushcraft.  I found they were a great help when I was performing maintenance on my R-7000 vertical last year.  They should have parts, information, and advice available to you.

Drop Charlie a note.  See what he has to say about your problem.
