1  eHam Forums / Company Reviews / Universal Radio on: May 03, 2006, 09:00:20 AM
I have ordered a few things in the past from them with no problem. However, last week I ordered a Kenwood TS-570S(G). Received the confirmation email for my order and was told I would receive another mail indicating that my order was done being processed/shipped. I never heard another word, so I called them today out of curiousity. Apparently they are out of stock and awaiting another shipment due in 1-2 weeks. The person I spoke with said that the warehouse had updated my order (not sure what this means, as I never received an email). This is no problem for me, but I can definitely see how this would bother some folks. We are very used to email updates with some internet sites and want to know everything now; when it doesn't happen, people start to get upset. What probably made the situation worse is that they could not reference my actual order number when I called - I had to spell out my name several times before they found it. I don't think they are a bad company - but they definitely need to revamp their customer service skills if they want to remain competitive with other internet-based suppliers...just my two cents.
2  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / Battery Issue with Kenwood TH-G71A HT on: May 30, 2004, 03:17:19 PM
My NiCD pack that came with the radio is just about finished. I ordered a Maha NiMH replacement pack (MH-PB-39H)and charged it with my original wall/trickle charger.

For whatever reason, the battery does not appear to charge-up. The backlight is very dim and if I key up the battery indicator quickly drops to 2-3 bars.

I also purchased the BC-11 alkaline battery adapter to use when I'm between packs, but I get the same result as when I try to use the new pack (dim light/weak power).

For grins, I placed the original NiCD pack back on the radio and although the battery indicator is just under full, the backlight is bright and it looks "stronger".

I'm not sure if by alkalines are no good (took them out of an 8-pack), or if I need a different charger for the new pack or both...

I welcome feedback from anyone out there that has had any experience similar to this...this is my only radio and right now I'm off the air until I can resolve this.

73's....

I'm in a similar situation - I've read several bad reviews on poor transmit audio quality using the Kenwood models.

What I've been looking into is the Pryme SPM-600 series, but I have yet to find someone who could give me feedback on it one way or the other...

Let me know if you find something that suits you well - and I'll do the same in return...
4  eHam Forums / Station Building / Wall plate/connector question on: March 08, 2003, 02:26:06 PM
Thanks, James!

Just out of curiousity - where did you find the UHF connectors?

I guess what I'm looking for is female/female (so the coax in the wall connects to one end and my gear to the other).

The ones that I'm finding on the internet are almost too long for what I'm trying to do here... any ideas?

thanks again,

Alan

I'm looking to setup two different antennas in the attic - both of their coax lines will feed down one of my bedroom walls.

What I'm looking for is someone who sells a wall plate that has twin UHF connectors already installed as part of the plate assembly.

Is this available, or do I have to fabricate something from scratch? Any help is appreciated - I'm somewhat new to this, so I'm looking for input from anyone else that has been down this path....

Thanks in advance,

Alan
