1  eHam Forums / Elmers / Diamond shaped Quad and polar ? on: June 25, 2002, 04:59:36 PM
Hi Pete !
I appreciate your comments. Anyway, I thought that more people would have some info to share about that ?
Well, I'm looking for an hybrid array... Would like to be able to work either sats, tropo and sometimes repeaters... So the perfect solution would be dedicated antennas for each acticity, but money and room are missing !
So! Will try that corner-fed quad, let's say for 70 cm on a 2 element basis, and will try to see what happen while receiving different polarisations. If not satisfactory, will probably choose classical cross-yagis (some of them are very popular and (almost) cheap overhere), and feed them with the appropriate harness for circular pol...
thans again for sharing yr experience.

2  eHam Forums / Elmers / Diamond shaped Quad and polar ? on: June 20, 2002, 07:20:11 AM
Hi there,

I now think to change my V/UHF antenna system to be able to work either sat and tropo in good conditions. Therefore, I was thinking first to install cross-yagis using circular polarization.

Does anyone know what kind of polarization can be expected while using a diamond shaped Quad, fed at the lower angle, for example. (hybrid between V and H ?)

I understand that circular polar coul lead to a 3dB loss for a straigth linear incoming signal, but do we have a chance to receive this kind of real linear signal ?
Won't an hybrid polar be more efficient in any case, for sat or tropo as well ?

Thanks for your help.

3  eHam Forums / Elmers / VCR RFI on: March 06, 2002, 04:28:54 AM
Hello all,
HF makes RFI in my VCR while playing or recording a tape.
I partially solved the problem by installing a RF choke on a ferrite rod on the coax cable, and get success above 18 MHz. Problem is still there below 18...
Permitivity problem ?
I plan to pile-up cores on the coax link and "peritel" cable, and expect to find an efficient solution for bands between 3.5 and 18 MHz.
I checked the Amidon web site to find the best core material (i.e #77)and here's my problem:
Cores available here in france are colored and wear specific names (i.e 4C6, purple color)
I'm not able to find any correspondance between colors and "material" used by Amidon.
Could anyone suggest the appropriate core color for efficient choke at low frequencies ? Any color efficient for the whole HF bands ?
How many cores to pile-up to be efficient ?

Hope the questions are understandable...

Thanks for your help

4  eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / TS-950SD TX fail on: January 18, 2002, 11:46:37 AM
Hello all,

The TS-950SD in our club station refused suddenly to switch to TX (any band, any mode)

Did someone experience this kind of failure and had any troubleshooting suggestions (no doc available except the built-in one) ??

Thanks

Hi Pete.

thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, most of dumps overhere are now selective, and restricted areas. You just can come and throw away your stuff, but are not allowed to go inside and have a look...
We have regular "at-home" collecting, but some guys are quicker than you can be, and collect whatever looks markeatable to make profit...

That's the french touch....

6  eHam Forums / Elmers / RF choke with piled-up tores ? on: January 15, 2002, 04:04:05 AM
Thank you.

I wrote iron powder but was thinking ferrite. I thought ferrite was a french word...

I used ferrite rods until now, but purchasing them is becoming a hard challenge !
Some ferrites halves are available on this end, especially for computer use, but think this would be difficult to identify the mlaterial and define if it could be appropriate for Ham use.

Thanks for the prompt and nice answers.

7  eHam Forums / Elmers / RF choke with piled-up tores ? on: January 14, 2002, 04:50:02 AM
I already built RF chokes by winding coaxial cable around iron powder rod.
I did that on my own TV set, against common mode TVI.
(efficient from 20m to 10 metres on 20 cm length rod)

I'm wondering if same effect can be obtained by routing the cable thru several iron powder cores ?
(i.e for rigid cables, not flexible enough to be wind up)

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi,

Will relay your question on www.radioamateur.org
Pse e-mail me your own mail address, then I'll forward you the replies (didn't find yr mail here)

Note that 6 meters is FORBIDDEN in and around Paris, whatever your license class...

I'm not sure to well understand the question:
If you're looking for radio stuff (TRX, antenna, etc) try to visit:

If you're looking for hardware (electronic components...), have no answer but will ask.

 Hi there,

The PARIS VHF repeater is working on 145.600 (shift -600KHz)
Guess this is probably the only that you could work from PARIS downtown with a handy TRX.
Note that all F repeater are between 145 and 145.787.5, and are using standard IARU channels.

If you're equipped, many other UHF repeaters are available.
You'll find a list on the following link:
http://www.ref-union.org/cnrr/pre_liste.html

Concerning the club station, I found the followings on the net:
Radio Club de Nanterre (Close to Puteaux)http://f6kur.multimania.com/lastation.html

If you agree, will relay your question on a french forum, where more people should be able to answer your question.
Pse let me know, and I'll show your mail for direct answers.

In addition, if you'll be able to drive, we would be pleased to welcome you in our F8KFK club station, which is 30km N/E from Paris.

Enjoy your stay.

11  eHam Forums / Digital / PSK31 QRP - Skeds on Low Bands ? on: January 07, 2002, 07:35:13 AM
Hello all,

Is anyone interested in having a schedule with me on 80/40/30 meters PSK31 ??
I often call CQ, especially on 30 meters, but feel to be alone on the band (just worked 4 stations in 6 months...)

I work QRP, with a center-fed dipole on these bands.

Please feel free to e-mail me if you are interested in trying a schedule.
We therefore could discuss times and QRG.

Thank you !
