1  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: CO2 alarms go off on: January 08, 2012, 08:26:43 PM
I had the same thing happen in the 1970s. The antenna was close to the smoke detector
in the house . Outdoor dipole I know , but the RF field must have been just right, at the time .
The detector would  'burp'  on voice peaks , SSB .
The fix was to reduce power some and reduce transmit audio  . ( Swan 350C  )

Popular Mechanics , a couple of issues back , had plans for one . I built it and great results .

Mine is indoors ( apt ) .  Try it . Cost me nothing as I am a packrat .

At a flea market today , picked up an old Jerrold
FSM , model  727 . Anyone have experience with this ?
Looks like it has audio built in , and can receive
from  5 mhz to  216  mhz .
Have not plugged into A-C yet.

8  eHam Forums / Lost Hams / NOT REALLY LOST, BUT UNKNOWN ????? on: July 06, 2008, 02:52:22 AM
Back in the day -  early 1960s , I was SWLing the
160 meter band nightly, especially winter.
Anyway , I would listen to these 2 hams Qso ALL night,
discussing radio theory . Wow .
I was just wondering who these two guys were ;
college guys or insominacs ?
They had good knowledge of radio theory , at least I thought so .
I am living in Minnesota and these 2 fellas had W2
call signs .
My ' receiver' was a tweaked radio in an old record player / radio and a wire in my bedroom . 5 tube ,
ac-dc .
Anybody out east know ?

9  eHam Forums / Elmers / Apartment antennas on: June 06, 2008, 05:18:28 PM
I would probably select the 40 - 10 meter antenna.

Also, watch your power level. People are not
stupid. Any TVI , etc , they will find you out !
Don't make any enemies.

Try 10 to 15 watts .  And have fun .
10  eHam Forums / Misc / 1980s pvc audio filter - passive on: April 28, 2008, 05:10:10 AM
Does any one own  or  even remember , the Skytec

cw filter ,where the pvc pipe was ajustable for

tone, or tighter audio ?

I think it was cw-1 model .  Anybody want to sell one ?
11  eHam Forums / Elmers / 40m CW Tube TX'er on: December 08, 2007, 06:05:00 AM
Howdy -  I was thinking of making this transmitter for the 15 meter band.

Am I jumping the gun yet on this band ?

Also , anyone see any possible problems by doing this band with that particular circuit ?

I live in an apt building, some have cable tv and some use the roof  antenna.

I don't want to make enemies at this point. ( TVI )
