He is the manager or head of the HOA or the owner and even though his flagpole only has a flag, he has antennas all over the place. Just a guess but probably close. I on the other hand very much enjoy bucking the system. I distrust the status quo and like to see waves, and oatmeal in a bad guys beard pleases me! Only thing on a flag pole in the complex is an American flag. We are not allowed antennas and thats what we agreed to when we bought. Personally, I think a mans word or promise shouldn't be ran over by a few whiners who bought, signed their name and later became hams. or use the disaster crap as an excuse..there are more than enough radios for all kinds of disasters without having a tower as hand helds and mobiles go quite a distance. If it gets so bad you cant use that, then your already dead or soon will be. So instead of whining, honor your agreement and STFU 73 Ron

Not everyone has a friend with a pole setting truck. I have set and remove similar poles for HAM friends for nothing or for a hamburger on the grill when we finished.

eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / Inexpensive Cross Bow for wire antennas?
|
on: January 07, 2013, 04:36:52 PM

Any have a suggestion or two about an inexpensive cross bow for putting wire antenna supports over/through trees? I've tried the sling shot and find them marginal at best. The sling shot typically sends the weight high enough then the weight is not heavy enough to get to the ground, regardless of the amount of wiggling and jiggling. Or it gets wound around a limb during either the flight or decent or any number of other possible natural difficulties. So I want a cross bow to make a serious mess of it. I of course want a cross bow that is good quality and inexpensive to get the job done. But as I have little personal experience with these critters I decided to ask those of the Ham world that use a cross bow to git er done. I couldn't figure out how to get a shotgun to do the job and still be able to find the weight after the fact. Please no lectures about shooting a cow or some such silliness, I have several acres and all the cows are on the neighbors side of the fence anyway. So a cow or two won't really matter. I will not be using this cross bow for anything other than antenna work so keep this fact in mind for suggestions.
73 all and thanks for reading!

My tilt over telescoping tower is made by Aluma Tower. Aluma tower makes a lot of equipment for the military. Also, an Aluma tower is very easy to tilt/telescope. They are made of all aluminum and are very light, easy to raise, lower, ETC. BTW, Aluma tower has the greatest follow up warranty and just plain great customer service, when my winch went South they replaced it at no cost without argument, even though any warranty was well past.

If you want to be radio active in Fl. Palm Bay is the city to live in. In PB there are HOA's that are very draconian but there are also subdivisions that have no HOA and the city has no restrictions as Dan Fisher is a local police officer and a ham that is instrumental in achieving a favorable tower and antenna view from the city powers that be.

I have a 50' tilt over tower and am thinking of a 17' +- vertical VHF/UHF dual band antenna like a Diamond X 510 HDM. I was wondering if anyone has experience with these tall VHF/UHF verticals pertaining to breaking, leaking, cracking the plastic ray dome when repeatedly tilted over? I haven't used the taller verticals on this tower and am looking for a little guidance.
thanks to all for reading my message.

The USA is just not the "good old USA" anymore. Crazies kill children, the Washington Elite cannot even agree upon a budget and we have the highest national debt ever. Now with the ham story above I am so disheartened. Where have we gone, when even an innocuous ham gets attacked over a hobby. I had a neighbor like the ones above. He was an old guy whom had been a CB'er in the 60's-70's said he knew all about "radio" as he called it and he hated everything I did. He once told me that he knew I was running illegal power. Must have been my 160 watt Mirage amp for 2 meter which was my only amp at the time. People in the USA have gone around the bend! Someone please reinforce my belief in the USA!

I have used misrepresentation in an RV park sale where the seller verbally told the buyer that the septic system was sufficient for a full park sewage, it was not sufficient as the prior owner had to have the septic system pumped monthly to keep up to even a partial load. Clearly a lie to misrepresent! This cost both the seller and the broker just over one million dollars US. The four corners rule was deemed not applicable in the face of such blatant misrepresentation being it verbal or otherwise.
