eHam Forums / Elmers / WORK HEIL PR780 AND IC775DSP?
|
on: March 06, 2006, 03:15:23 PM
|
|
The 775DSP is a great rig (sold it to get the 7800); this is a "pre-pro" rig and the PR780 may not work as well as you think (as it is a dedicated mic for the 7800 and Pro3); try to borrow one as that is a lot of money if it is not a good match; I bought the ICM for my 775 and was very disappointed; the jury is still out on the 780 with my 7800; I am getting outstanding reports with my SM-8 and SM-20 with the 7800 as I did with the 775. Best wishes, Phil

eHam Forums / Elmers / cabinet for 51J4 Collins

Very rare and expensive and in demand: $300 to $500 just for the cabinet when available; try a bud or generic cabinet; will have a small gap but will work.

eHam Forums / Company Reviews / Not happy with HRO
|
on: December 03, 2004, 10:44:48 PM

As a premise to my review, let me say that I do not buy a lot of new equipment as I collect and use mostly boatanchors; however I have bought (all from Anaheim HRO)an R-9000, 781, 761 plus a lot of peripheral equipment. I think this store is just great; the personnel is knowledgeable and friendly whether you buy or not; I have bought a Heil mic which did not work for me and they gladly took it back; yes, you may save the tax and order out of state; however, I feel that if I am "kicking the tires" of a demo rig and decide to purchase that item, it is only fair to go back to the place which provides a friendly and no pressure environment to make my decision. If we do not support such businesses, there may exist the possibility that that store will not be there one day. Lastly, despite Bill and Terry and Janet being great, I do miss 'ol Dale (Piedfort) who retired earlier this year. God bless 'em. Thanx for reading. Phillip W. Harris, PhD.J.D.P.C.

eHam Forums / Elmers / 970H W/ A R-9000

I use a R-9000 to transceive with a 775DSP; I like this set up as the 9000 is my favorite receiver; has anyone used an Icom 970 to transceive with the 9000; it seems possible as they both have the mini "remote" jack for info transfer and the 970 has a mute pin on the accessory jack; E-mailing ICOM resulted in a response that the two were not compatible, but I am not so sure; however, it seems that a separate antenna would be needed for each rig; any input would be appreciated. Thanx, Phil.

I am restoring a really neat HQ-180; is there a reflector site for Hammarlund rigs as there are for Drake, Collins, etc?? Can Anyone direct me to a source for paint, clock or clock bezel, paint, and knobs for this fine machine?? Thank you for any anticipated input. Regards, Phillip W. Harris, PhD.P.C.

Can anyone direct me to the Drake Reflector site; more specifically, can anyone inform me on where I can buy paint, whether OEM replacement or similar paint for my TR-7 "sticky" cabinet? thank you for any comment or assistance. Phillip W. Harris, PhD.P.C.

eHam Forums / Elmers / receiver Collins.

Hi Jean: Congrads on having the 51S1 as I have several myself; this is a good receiver but not great; its main forte' is that it is general coverage and matches the S/line of ham equipment. Questions that will influence value and price: does it have the case and is it winged or round emblem (showing later sn). The market is somewhat soft as reflected by current e-bay prices/bids but the mint stuff is still in demand. Final response for one in pristine condition: $800 to $1300, depending on your venue of advertising to sell and the above variables. good luck.

eHam Forums / Boat Anchors / Don't rad this. You'll be sorry! 50 R-390s...

Just another receiver?!? I don't think so! I have twenty-two receivers/rigs in my shack including the FT-1000D, Collins 75S3C and 51S1, SX-115, and a mint Icom R-9000; the R-390 is the most pleasureable to listen to; very tooooobey sound, especially with the CV-591 SSB adapter. Great rig; go ahead and blow up that bunker...most of those great receivers will survive....and yes I am sorry that I read your posting.

Sir:
As a rare coin collector and investor, I have found that the top .1% of the coins sell for a premium multiple just because of the rarity and desirability of these items; such are the same for the truly rare receivers (if one knows and exposes the item to an open market)such as the HRO 500, GPR 92, SX-88, and I would put the SX115 in that same category; I have two of these and I would not sell them; these sound better than any of the six 75S3B receivers (ironically the receiver it was designed to compete with) that I have; One did sell on e-bay a few months ago for $2600..so "willing buyer' and "willing seller" can only determine this value; that withstanding: low threshold $1,000 prime condition with book, box and speaker $2300 to$3000. If anyone wishes to sell one please contact me; I wish I could figure how to get one in my 401k. Regards, Phillip W. Harris, PhD.P.C.

Yes the FRG 9600 was considered a vhf/uhf receiver; however the range was 50 to 905 mhz.I am not a big Yaesu fan, but this was not a bad receiver. Regards.

eHam Forums / Station Building / Rack mounting

I also like the rack-mount concept; the idea of the rack-mount shelves is a good one and they are readily available but they don't have a real good look to them especially for small vhf/uhf mobile rigs; I run and prefer Icom over the other big "two" and all of my gear is rack-mounted or "mountable"; the Icom 761, 765, 781, 775 are HF rigs that mountable with the MB-19 rack ears available as an option; the IC-970 is also a VHF/UHF rig that has the same options;
There was a company about 7 to 10 years ago that made racks for popular HF/VHF rigs, but alas, it went by the wayside because of a lack of interest.
Good luck, OM.

May I ask anyone that has experience, which spectrum analysis/band scope software and/or sound card they would recommend use with my FT-1000D. Thank you for your time and comments.
