eHam Forums / CW / RE: morse , a fascinating subject
|

I put on a "Wireless Technology" class throughout the school year (I'm not a teacher, I'm the school district's Police Officer trying to get kids interested in all areas of wireless tech, leaning heavy towards amateur radio)and they love learning about code. I tell them Morse code was the world's first text messaging. We talk about how the "new fangled technology" at the time saved all of those people on a ship named the Titanic. It's amazing how fast they pick it up. The other thing the kids find very interesting is Satelite communication.

eHam Forums / Antennas and Towers and more / How much is a tower worth

Hi guys, I was talking to a SK's wife about the tower in her back yard. She wants to get rid of it and I want to pay her what it's worth. It's a Rohn 20 or 25, not quite sure, 25 feet tall. What is a fair price. Thanks

eHam Forums / Elmers / Different kind of radial question

I know the number and length of radials I need for my vertical antenna. My question is how do you attach your radials to your antenna? Do I need to solder each wire to a round type of connector and then attach to a screw/nut on the antenna. Thanks in advance. 73 Bob

eHam Forums / Elmers / Is this the only rig that does this..

I was checking out the features on the new Elecraft K3 and saw that it is able to decode cw on the screen. Is this the only rig that has this ability. I thought it looked like a neat feature. I know, the best decoder is between my ears and getting on the air to build up speed. I'm doing all of that...I just want to know if that is the only rig that does this. Thanks Bob n0bof

eHam Forums / CW / Having a blast!

The CW contest going on this weekend has given me some DX stations I have never worked in my 15 years on SSB HF. All that practicing/sending/listening is worth it. For those of you who are just getting into CW, now would be a great time to get your feet wet. I would advise to listen to a few exchanges first. It's like finding ham radio all over again. 73 Bob n0bof

When I hear someone calling CQ CQ CQ Fists, are you looking for only another Fists member? I know on phone if an OP wants Colorado or MN ect they call for that state. I didn't know if Fists was the same protocal. I know that the Fists group likes to help CW newbies out, which I am. I'm not a Fists member, thats why I ask. Tnx Merry Christmas n0bof

I was asked if there was a cw decoding program for a Palm Pilot with a sound card. I searched around the net but had no luck finding one. Anyone know of such a program? Thanks.

Can Cwget decode my sending when I'm practicing off the air? I can't seem to get it to hear my code. I tried running a line from the speaker out on the rig to the line in on my pc. It decodes just fine the incoming signals on air. I'm confused!

eHam Forums / CW / WB2WIK....Thank You

WB2WIK, I am trying to get kids in our local school district interested in ham radio. I'm the school cop and work with at risk kids all day long as well as kids who are not at risk. Anyway, I have sparked some pretty good interest in code. Thanks for all of the great posts you have here. I have found your advice to be very helpful to not only the kids but I'm increasing my speed as well. There have been alot of great posts on here and awseome hams who have helped me get the station going. Have a great day everyone and THANK A VET! 73 Bob
