eHam Forums / Elmers / VX-7R problem

I have a problem with my VX-7R. I had to put it in storage for a few months while I moved and now I can not even turn it on with the battery. I can however, turn it on by plugging it in to the wall socket. So this is leading me to think it is a battery problem but what is confusing is the battery says it is fully charged. I have two new batteries on order and will see if that fixes the problem. Does anyone have any different idea of what would/could cause this to happen?
Thanks

After spending the week troubleshooting, reading various posts and getting suggestions from various folks, I am going to send the radio and mic back to Yaesu for repair or replacement. I want to thank everyone who made a suggestion and especially KG4WMF who went out of his way to call me with suggestions for additional troubleshooting ideas.

eHam Forums / Mods And Repairs / VX-7R squelch and exterrnal mic problem

I just got my VX-7R the other day and so far I like it. I have one problem whenever I attach the external mic (CMP460A) the squelch kicks on and off. This happens even with the squelch level at 4. When I disconnect the external mic the squelch returns to normal operations (it does not kick on and off) and I can even turn down the squelch level to a 2. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on and should I return this radio to Yaesu for a fix?
thanks

Went ahead and ordered my radios from Hamcity.com. After checking out the prices and shipping they had the best price. The radios with accessories should be here by the 12th. I just can not wait. Downloaded all the operator manuals and gathering frequencies I want to program into each radio.
Thanks to all who replied and assisted me in making my choice.

Anyone dealt with this internet company? I am looking at purchasing some items and found their (hamcity.com) prices easier on the wallet. How about Gigaparts.com?
thanks

Thanks for all the replies. It has been hard to narrow down the various options and choices but here is what I am going to get:
HT: VX-7r (stock antenna for now) desk charger, extra battery and the waterproof mic
Mobile (truck): FT-8900R Comet UHV-4 CP-5M lip mount
I found a company on the internet called hamcity.com that seem to have the best prices (atleast $64 dollars difference). I was wondering if anyone has pruchased from this company and how are they to do business with? I want to purchase by the end of the week.
Thanks

I was reading about comms from hilltops with either buddipole or mobile J-poles. That sounded fun to do and a great way to spend an afternoon. With the high hills here on Kodiak Island long range comms should not be a problem. So yes working CW and SSB with my mobile rig will be in my future.

Got my General license 2 weeks ago and have been using my husbands (KL1JW) HT (VX-150) but now it is time to get my own radios. I have about $1000 to spend and this is what I am thinking on getting after reading the reviews on this site:
Mobile (truck) rig: FT 8900 Comet UVH-4 ant Various connectors and mounting brackets plus Commander software to program the radio via computer.
HT: VX-7R Comet HT-224 ant extra batteries and connectors and Commander software to program it.
A RH-205 ant for my husbands VX-150 (he is going to want to upgrade his radios eventually so this may not be purchased)
When I get more money I plan on building a base station using the following equip (still researching the ant system I want to use (learned that on this site--plan your base station around your antenna system not the reverse)): FT-897D FC-30 Ant tuner ATAS 120 ant (undecided on that--Hubby wants or is not opposed to long wire and separate dipole). VL-1000/Quadra system (hubby not going to go for a amp system that costs more then the radio but she sure looks nice and I can dream). So I still need to fine a good amp system. I am studying for my Extra license and hope to have that by early next year about the same time I hope to begin to build the base station.
Not sure exactly what I am really interested in but do want my base station to be able to do a variety of things from vox, to CW to SSB to digital to ratt, to packet radio. But that is still months down the line gotta get the money first.
So what do you all think?
