My favorite color is blue
And sarcasm will get you nowhere. If you had read the reviews for Radiomart first, I am sure you would have bought elsewhere. Good luck with your purchase. 73

Check out my station photo on QRZ.com I bought 16" x 96" shelving at Home Depot and had them cut 60" pieces for the shelves and smaller widths for the risers. This way you can space it out to fit your equipment, glue it all together and it looks custom made.

eHam Forums / Amplifiers / Load tuning question

Amp is an AL84. I can get about 400 watts PEP out of it, but when tuning, the LOAD control always ends up near or at minimum when I'm done tuning. On the higher bands it may get to 2 1/2 or 3 on the dial. Does this indicate something wrong with the antenna system or my tuning procedure? I run a new MFJ962 tuner after the amp.

And if you do go the route of car batteries, make sure to keep them well away from any flame, i.e furnace etc. There is a gas discharged during the charging cycle than can explode if it comes into contact with an open flame.

Still unsure why the RFI would be present when the beam was pointed in certain directions but not others?
I plan on installing some isolation transformers for the digital line, although most of my operating is on CW or FSK.
Thanks for the help guys,

eHam Forums / RFI / EMI / RE: Getting back to RFI and the sloper

It seems I have several issues causing the RFI. I took the sloper down, and disconnected the coax for it where it enters the house. Still RFI on 15 and 10 meters. I unplugged the audio cable going from the sound card out to the PRO (the line that carries the digital signals) and the RFI has disappeared.
So it seems I need to install chokes on the coax lines, and put an isolation transformer on the audio line coming from the computer. I do believe the sloper was too close to the beam as before the beam went up the sloper would tune beautifully on 75m, but after the beam was installed, it would not tune anywhere on the band. I plan on putting it back on the tower about two feet below the beam. Due to the distance to the opposite support it will be more of a dipper, not a sloper.
Can anyone recommend some common mode chokes?

Here's the situation:
RF getting into the mic audio on 15 and 10 meters. On the tower is a Cushcraft A3s at 32' and an Alpha Delta DX-B sloper about 3 feet below it.
I was talking to a chap in the UK who explained he had the same issue, his wire antenna was picking up the RF and causing the same problem. He suggesting I try swinging the beam to see if the problem went away when the beam was pointed in different directions. Sure enough it is the worst when the beam is pointed southeast, the sloper runs to the east. I unplugged the coax coming from the sloper but the RFI is still there.
How is the RF still getting into the audio when the coax for the sloper is disconnected?
Suggestions?

For basic RTTY I use MixW. I find it doesn't copy weak signal as well as MMTTY, but is great for PSK31, CW and other digital audio modes. There is a program "MixButtons" I sue with it to set up my macros for the different modes, and then I use the MixW macros for contesting and logging.
Have fun,

I'm now using a 756PRO having got rid of the TS2000 and notice a huge difference in receive on the PRO. The 2000 was noisy, and weak compared to the 756. I did the 2m/440 rx mod to increase the gain as I found it was deaf on those bands. Never should have got rid of my TR751A.

eHam Forums / RFI / EMI / RF on my audio with amp on 40m only
|
on: January 24, 2010, 07:23:46 PM
|
|
Setup:
756PRO, AL84 amp, A3S (20-15-10) Alpha Delta DX-B sloper (160-80-40-30)
When I am not running the amp, I get no RF on my audio whatsoever. When I run the amp, I get RF back in my audio on 40m only. Doesn't do it into the dummy load so I suspect the coax going to the sloper is radiating some RF back into the rig on 40m. I can't really change out any of the cables, so I'm looking for other things to try.
