1  eHam Forums / DXing / RE: FO5JV email? on: June 17, 2012, 11:46:42 AM
Hi John
Thanks for that nice comment. It was the least I could do for him. I managed 12 band/slots with 7O6T which was a real thrill especially the first one on 17m CW, but it was tough going at times. I guess it would have been more difficult for FO5JV to break the pileup even with his big station.
73 and gud dxing John,
John, G3UCQ
PS "going back" now that would be nice Wink Grin
2  eHam Forums / DXing / FO5JV email? on: June 16, 2012, 02:03:29 AM
Hi.  Does anyone have an email address for William FO5JV please?
He sent me his 7O6T qsl card by mistake which I have forwarded to UA3DX for him.
Just wanted to tell him that - unless William happens to read this  Grin
TIA

3  eHam Forums / Elmers / RE: TGM MQ36sr on 6m query on: May 04, 2010, 10:49:46 AM
Hello Mike
and thank you for your reply.  I reckon you could be right as there is not much else it could be I suppose. The antenna is due to be lowered and checked over soon so I'll try to do that sooner rather than later.
In the past I have found that crows and possibly seagulls peck a lot of the silicone off the coil sections so that may have happened again and let in water.

4  eHam Forums / Elmers / TGM MQ36sr on 6m query on: May 03, 2010, 09:50:29 AM
For some reason, the swr on 6m has gone above 3:1 across the band and the atu in my FT-2000 will not now tune it.
Previously (last year eS season it was no problem)  The antenna is working fine on all other bands i.e 20-10m so I cannot figure out what could be causing the swr to go high on 6m.  Tom at TGM Communications tells me that on 6m only aluminium is working on that band so something else must be causing the problem.
I added some coax to the antenna's coax and that brought the swr down so the FT-2000's internal atu would work but the swr changed on other bands.
Any ideas of what could be causing this.  I have a Radioworks balun at the feedpoint, could it be that?
Thanks in advance for any ideas/thoughts.

5  eHam Forums / Elmers / QRM on 21 Mhz on: November 01, 2008, 03:24:54 AM
Hi Doug
I don't think it was the Alaskan HAARP site as the signal I was getting was different to that.

It would be good if hams with yagis all over Europe and the Middle East could give the bearing of the noise so we could pin point it.  Is there a system in place where that could be done?  If not, the only way I see it is to place a message on a DXCluster and hope enough hams respond.

Thanks guys.  15m is certainly not dead here.  Someone in Europe posted on a DXcluster that it was coming from ZC4 (Sovereign Base Area on Cyprus i.e the British MOD base - possibly Akrotiri if that info is correct)  My mini beam seems to confirm the QRM coming from a SouthEasterly direction which could be Cyprus???  It is 13:35 UTC here and I cannot hear it now.

Hi.
Does anyone know where the Buzzy QRM on the first 20khz of 21mhz is coming from?  10:00 UTC now here and is S9.  It has been reported from other European stations as well on the DXcluster.

Just what I have been talking about.  TT8JT on 20m cw sending only his callsign after each qso resulting in mayhem as guys call on his frequency plus the EU police telling them to UP. This confusion can be so easily avoided with the addition of UP after each QSO.

Hi Bob
Contacting DX through their website would be ideal but I don't know the site until they start up and its usually too late by then.
I had a vain hope that some may read this.;-)

The funniest thing I heard a DX station say was "QRZ the weak station only please"

Thanks for your comment Steve
I just worked 3V8SS who gave his call and UP after every QSO. No problems and he was working at a great rate.  How it should be done!

I find many cw dx stations do not always add UP after their callsign. Here in EU, this means that many callers think the station is operating simplex and call on the dx station's frequency. (If they only listened a few khz up they would hear the pileup but that is too easy!)

So, you have a station who keeps calling on top of the DX and the 'police' start sending UP UP UP which blots out the dx.

Also, many dx stations do not send their callsign after each QSO.  Then you have the problem of stations sending CALL? or ? ? on the frequency.  More frustration.

The recent 3B7C operation was a perfect example of great operating and look at how many qsos they made!
So DX, please send 'CALLSIGN UP' after every QSO.  TU

Hi Wade.
My apologies for getting the wrong meaning from your email.  I guess I am so mad at these morons I wasn't thinking quite straight.  They are at it again on 20m ssb now!

It would be great to activate Soqotra again but it is not looking hopeful.  Getting through the moronic QRM would be more difficult ;-)

One of the 'morons' proceeded to 'work' a number of EUs who thought they were working BS7H.  His operating was pretty good so it's a pity his 'talents' could not be challenged into real DXing.  A bit like computer hackers really.

Hi Wade
Is there any particular reason why you chose Yemen?  I know it's one of the rarest entities and my website happens to deal with Socotra, a Yemeni island. Coincidence or a dig?  Just wondering.

BS7H was on 20m this afternoon and it was not long before the lowlifes got onto the frequency and created a level of QRM it would be difficult to beat.  Then BS7H moved to 30m and they soon found that frequency and drowned out any hope of working the DX.

Is there nothing that cannot be done to track these morons down and have their equipment confiscated?
