1  eHam Forums / SWL (Shortwave Listening) / RE: Receiver buying advice please on: May 05, 2013, 05:34:29 PM
Robert,

I am most interested in broadcast am. Does the QS1R show EIBI and HFCC schedules with point and click frequency changing?

3  eHam Forums / SWL (Shortwave Listening) / Receiver buying advice please on: April 28, 2013, 11:38:31 AM
Hello all,

I am looking for opinions on the best short wave receiver in the 700 to 900 dollar range.  I need computer interface capability for use with ERGO, etc. any ideas?

OK, FB on all...I've had my say and now I'm done. This has used 20 minutes of my life that I will never get back, so I am moving on...good luck and God speed...73.

Obviously you can't plan to rely on just a decoder to play with cw, but for those just learning cw, it can be a useful aid for the learning process. Take that away and there is no reason to even try. There no cw requirement for licensing and no govt agencies use it, so why make these silly points so even more people will feel stigmatized for for not doing it "your way"? It's a hobby for God's sake...it's not that important.
7  eHam Forums / CW / RE: decoders on: January 21, 2013, 03:43:48 PM
And this is important why? If it bothers you so much, just don't answer. It's better to receive no response to my CQ than receive one from someone who has nothing better to do with his time than denigrate others. These are the people that almost caused the death of CW. You should thank Jesus every day that any new operator CHOOSES to try and learn cw and even to use it. How they get there means absolutely nothing. I think any new operator should use whatever means necessary to achieve their goal. Too many curmudgeons with too much time on their hands...so sad.

Well, Billy! You must be psychic! I have yet to engage in a CW QSO and instantly know there is a decoder involved. Do you get like a burning sensation or something?
9  eHam Forums / CW / Just bought a Junker DGBM key on: January 20, 2013, 04:06:14 PM
I just purchased an original Junker DGBM key from a ham in Germany. It has a strange leg holder accessory. The key is from 1939 and has documents. I was told this is a pretty good straight key, but I want some seasoned opinions. I paid about a hundred bucks. I like straight keys better than paddles. Been a ham for 20 years but just now getting serious about CW. Is this a good key or did I waste my money?

10  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: Still no sign of a working Flex-6000 series on: December 18, 2012, 10:21:35 AM
I will hate to see the Flex 6000 actually ship.  Would mean the end of these soap-opera posts.  Oh, I forgot:  next season will compare features vs hype.  Very entertaining.

Agree. They will be here soon. I just talked to a friend that actually saw one running and said it is "amazing"! I just upgraded to 2.5.3 and it runs great, no issues at all!
11  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: How to ......rdxcluster and flex 1500 on: December 12, 2012, 09:34:46 AM
Hi John!

I also have used RDXCluster with my flex 3000. It is an excellent program! I am using OmniRig and have the PSDR software CAT info set for Power SDR. In OmniRig I choose PSDR as the radio at 57600 baud. It works fine. You can also set it up as a Kenwood TS-2000. Question...when you use RDXCluster and PSDR, does your screen blink every few seconds?

12  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: Seriously - Why buy a Flex 6700? on: November 23, 2012, 05:08:35 PM
Excellent comments, and good point, James! We should all help make it better! I have been a ham for 20+ years and owned all sorts of rigs. I know Yaesu is working on a SDR transceiver, and I believe this is our future. I also use a RadioJet SWL radio which is great. I will certainly look for the positive, A's I have no time for the negative! Smiley
13  eHam Forums / Software Defined Radio / RE: Seriously - Why buy a Flex 6700? on: November 23, 2012, 03:47:04 PM
Why not? If you enjoy being on the leading edge of technology or learning a new way of operating HF, and can afford it, why not do it? I have a Flex 3000 that works flawlessly. I use a string of outboard audio gear with it without a hitch. After researching many of these posts, I doubt some of the posters even own an SDR radio. If you purchase a radio, and can't figure out how it works, or don't have enough computer horsepower, thenthat is no one else's fault. If you don'like Flex then don'buy buy one, but PLEASE don't keep crying about it. Grin
14  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / NRD 535.ini file on: September 28, 2012, 01:29:41 PM
Hello all!

I want to use OmniRig to control my JRC NRD-535 receiver. Currently, OmniRig says it only has an ini file for the 535 D,G models. I contacted OmniRig and they were no help at all! Does anyone have any idea where I might find an ini file for a plain NRD-535 to use with OmniRig?

15  eHam Forums / Computers And Software / UR5EQF Logging Software on: August 06, 2012, 09:31:40 AM
I have been using a new logging program that I stumbled on by accident...UR5EQF Log. The original version was written in Russian, but the new version is available in English. The program is free and quite awesome! Has anyone else used this software? Do you know how to contact the author?
