I agree! I dug my old Swan 250C off the shelf this weekend, plugged it all in, and landed right in the middle of a band opening. I tried putting my call out, but with my poor dipole antenna, the stronger signals beat me out. I was on ssb.

I've run across a Supreme signal generator, model 189. Does anyone know when this was made? It has an ac power cord, but it's missing it's leads(if it had any). Thanks, Jason

I picked up a Vanco SWR-1 a year ago in a box of parts. It's missing the antenna for field strength measurments. Anyone happen to know how long it's supposed to be? Thanks, Jason

I have an old KDK FM-2025 MKII. It's a great older rig for open repeaters and simplex, but mine doesn't have tone. Mine had a 3 watt low and a 25 watt high with ten memory channels. I always had great audio reports with that radio.

In addition to Charles' post, you might look into purchasing a charger/maintainer that also desulphates. Putting it simply, they remove sulphate deposits on a battery's plates and can help extend the life of a battery.

Only if you're storing your battery in an enclosed, non-ventilated area. My system consists of a lead/acid deep cycle battery, a regular automotive 15 amp charger, and a small 13.8 volt seven amp power supply. I'll normally run the power supply in line with the battery and my radio. The power supply trickle charges the battery. Once a month I'll unplug the seven amp supply, run off the battery for a while, and hit the battery with the charger.

I once found a web page that covered VHF and UHF repeater frequencies that could be used while hiking the A.T. I can't find that website anymore... Does anyone know of something like that?

Alan and Steve, thanks for your replies! The amp is seeing occasional duty with my j-pole at 35'. And yes, it does still work. I worked a station 150 miles away a couple weeks ago.

If the DJ-596 is anything like the DJ-196T, all you need to do to change power settings is to press the Func/Set key, and then press the PO/5 key. Your radio will remember which power setting you use when committing frequencies to memory and will return to that setting.

eHam Forums / Amplifiers / VHF Engineering Amp?

I was given a VHF Engineering amp (by a very generous elmer), and I was wondering if you could help me figure out how many watts this thing is supposed to throw out. The model # is BLC30/150. I'm guessing it needs about 30 watts to run 150 watts out. Does that sound right? The easy way would be hook it up to a watt meter, but the guy that owns it has it packed up to move into a new house.
Thanks for any replies!

eHam Forums / Elmers / j-pole question

I'm considering building a j-pole for two meters. Plans for them are all over the internet. Does anyone have, or know of any published or written gain figures for the standard j-pole or the stacked variety? Thanks,
