1  eHam Forums / Contesting / Working all counties on: July 14, 2009, 09:12:12 PM
I haven't kept up on all the contest or award requirements but do recall that sometime ago if I moved more than 25 miles away from my location the ARRL WAS had to start over.

SO maybe counties are different.

Hi Phil,

The oldest callbook I have is 1977, it lists the holder of callsign K6TT as Edward R. Lappe, 1134 George Dr., Santa Maria Ca.93453

Any time I ever put anything on a tree, the tree grew over almost like it was absorbed.  Never had any effect upon the trees.  Only downside was the tree had whatever it was and was not giving it back.

He used a different antenna, same rig, different feedline (I suppose) and everything works fine.

Needs to try a different coax to the first (bad swr) setup. If swr okay then bad coax, water is bad once it gets past the outer wrap.

Report to a Canadian station would have been, RS(T) and the serial number of the contact you are making during that contest, 01, 02, 03, 04 etc. easy.

Jump in get your feet wet.

7  eHam Forums / Misc / Is it lying or just mis-informed ham's? on: December 16, 2008, 11:31:36 PM
Sounds normal to me, there is a person (firestorm) on ebay presently selling an SB-104 transceiver and a HP-1144 power supply, he states that he's unable to try the SB-104 because he has no power supply...then he says that he can't test the HP-1144 because he has nothing to plug it into.

Yepper, I emailed him and explained that they work together but no response.  In other words his stuff is not only filty looking but complete non-fuctional junk.

8  eHam Forums / Elmers / FT-1000MKV Low power on: December 14, 2008, 06:12:48 PM
If I remember correctly, when a transistor overheats and then quits working it means that they need replaced.  10 watts, could be just the driver output that you are seeing.   Good luck

9  eHam Forums / Elmers / Yaesu Frequency Dial Lockup on: December 08, 2008, 09:51:11 PM
If you've run out of patience, give Yaesu a call, you can speak with a tech (for free) directly.  He's probably going to tell you to keep trying the light oil, don't get sloppy, don't over do it, that oil doesn't always work it's way into siezed shafts in minutes or hours

Patience and a light touch, no vice grip pliers, no steel hammers or plumbing torches.  Two drops every 6 hours and call me in the morning. Wink lol

Not enough information given.

Big difference between a 20 meter element and a 10 meter element on a 40 foot boom.

What make & model?

11  eHam Forums / Elmers / Yaesu Frequency Dial Lockup on: December 07, 2008, 12:54:06 PM
The lube they use dries out, I just had the same thing happen to my FT-1000MP.

I have a rubber like cover on the knob, that comes off to expose an allan screw, loosen the screw, remove the knob, take some light oil (like 3 in one) place a few drops on the shaft, elivate the radio so the oil slides down the shaft.  Wait a while, put a few more drops on, eventually it'll loosen up. Easiest repair I've ever had to preform on a rig.

Buy plexiglass...you must be kidding, I just drive over to the nearest glass store and ask if they have any plexiglass scrap that I can have.  They want to know what I'm going to use it for... antenna insulators I say, I'm a ham radio operator and love playing with wire antennas and the plexiglass makes nice insulators.  Usually they walk in back and come out with an arm load of scrap, I thank them and carry out my goodies.  Some get pitched in the trash once I get home because they're too small to be of use the rest gets set aside for "playing".

Try it, the worst they can say is "Get outta here kid", and think geeze don't these hams ever grow up. Wink

If you saw my operating position, it would take you all of a nanosecond to realize that I shouldn't have even bothered to read this posting.
