Hey y'all...when do ya reckon we will see the next solar cycle getting cranked up? 2006? 2007?

Here's a prediction:

But there have been a few articles where this prediction might be revised - maybe earlier than 2007. That's a good wish anyway. They never know for sure until after the cycle has turned, and when they have the data to plot over time.

Until then, I expect the low bands will be where the "action" is.

If you go by the 11-year average cycle duration, the next peak won't be until 2010 or 2011.  Cycle 23 had a "double peak," with a small dip between.  Unpredictable stuff.

As the other respondant indicated, they don't quantify sunspot cycles until the next one shows a steady sunspot number increase; until then, the "start" of the next cycle remains undetermined.

Floyd,

You can also go to the ARRL website and get weekly updates --

http://www.arrl.org/w1aw/prop/

The bulletins describe current conditions and also gives some insight into which bands might be best for that time period.

Anyone can go to the website, but if you are a member, you can get the bulletins emailed to you.

Good luck!
