May 7-13, 2016    Operating intermittently on 40m, 20m, 15m, and 10m (SSB)
We will try to stay on or near 7.265, 14.325, 21.290 and 28.365 as conditions and QRM permit.

Full color two-sided student-designed QSL card for this event!

This special event recognizes Russell Elementary School’s 18th annual space shuttle mission simulation. Russell Elementary is located in Smyrna, GA 11 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Students train all year for different positions in Mission Control or the Space Shuttle Simulator Intrepid and then put their skills to the test during a 27-hour simulated mission.

Would you like to talk to a member of our student astronaut crew while they are sealed inside the Intrepid simulator for their 27-hour mission on May 12-13 ? Two of the students on the crew are also licensed hams and they will have a Kenwood TS-2000 on-board during the mission to monitor 10m on 28.340 mHz. Their call signs are KM4NII and KM4NIJ. Give them a call on 28.340.

You can learn much more about our school’s space program at our program’s website: You can also watch the simulation live at

All radio operation, QSO logging, and QSL card design and processing for this special event station is done by elementary school students under the supervision of the club trustee. For that reason, our operating schedule is intermittent. Our students are operating as permitted by class schedules and other activities.
