Outgoing QSL via Bureau w/o ARRL?

So I've got a small stash of DX QSL's that I need to respond to, that I received from my local W1 bureau.  Having never sent QSL's through an outgoing bureau, everything I've come across indicates that I need an ARRL membership to do this.  True?

That's true Chuck....outgoing is for members.

There are, however, some "privately run" outfits that do the outgoing QSL thing as well.  Can't give you any references right off hand.  Either way you're going to pay for the service. Maybe another reader can supply that info....

Yes, ARRL membership is required to use their Outgoing service.  I think the private service is WF5E? (or something like that).  You can also mail cards to any foreign QSL buro on your own (but if you do that, you might as well mail them direct.  Or, you can give instructions and a rubber stamp to your Incoming Buro handlers and have them stamp incoming cards with words like "No membership in QSL Bureau" and have them rejected and returned.

Looks like he has to charge $1 per 2 cards.  For practical purposes, that's just too darned close to direct cost at my volume.

An important note:

ARRL Outgoing service requires membership

ARRL incoming service is free to any US-licensed amateur

Just look on their website and get in contact with the person that handles cards for your region and suffix to see if you have any waiting, and to get some stamped envelopes to him/her

You can send your cards direct to the foreign bureaus.  Any one can do this without membership in any society such as the ARRL.  Addresses are listed here:

For example, if you have 10 cards to send to Germany, instead of mailing each one direct to the recipient, mail the batch of 10 to the German bureau.

Although only ARRL members can use the outgoing ARRL bureau, all US hams can receive cards via the ARRL bureau.
