     I assume that you've got a tech ticket and are new to the hobby. There are probably 2 meter repeaters in your area that you can reach with an HT. You can find a nice HT for less than $200.00 or get a mobile rig for about the same money. With the mobile rig you will need a power supply and an antenna. My first excursion on the ham bands was with a 2m Alinco HT. It's built like a tank and still in service.
     What do you want to do on the bands? There are too many options available to hams to give a quick answer to you query. I've been a ham for a while and still have a lot to explore. Drop an e-mail with more info, or call me via telephone. I'll be glad to help you in your choice of radios.
