Main question. How to set roller inductor. As the same output can be obtained with the same plate current and dead key drive, what is the criteria to find the ideal roller inductor setting. Any help will be appreciated.

First, if you have the original manual, each Henry amp came with a tuning chart having recommended "numbers" for each band (or often more than one set per band) to pre-set the tuning controls.  One thing that made that a little bit hard to follow is some Henry amps had rotary inductors having more rotations than the dial could count, so the counter would go around more than once; e.g., there might be two "140" settings, one pretty far away from the other!

But anyway, the manual settings are a good start.

Other than that, I always tried to find the setting using the *least* amount of inductance that would allow the tank to resonate and transfer maximum power to the load.
