Does anyone know a way of researching old call signs from the 1930's and 40's. My recently deceased father held a call back in the 30's when I believe NY was in the 8 call district. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 73, Bill, N2CST

There are some folks that collect old call books.  Usually, if you give them a call they can look up the name, but not the other way around because the old books were not indexed by name.

Try here:

I collect old call books just for this reason.  You can usually pick them up on ebay for $4 or $5 each.  look at his stuff, I don't know of any ham that didn't put his call sign on something or other.  Ask relatives, friends about who remembers this stuff.  you can even post a note here on eham with his name and see if any one remembers... give it a try.  good luck  tom N6AJR
