I am trying to use a pk232mbx with Winlink 2.9 software to set up multiuser mode. I need wa8ded firmware in a 27512 eprom. Any ideas on where to obtain such a critter?

Thanks,

It's been a long time since I've dealt with the wa8ded firmware but I seem to recall that it required a TAPR TNC or clone such as the MFJ units. I don't think it will work with the PK232.

I have an mfj1278 tnc also. An eprom to use it in would be ok also.

I'd check with the TAPR web site. They are the ones that used to handle the DED firmware.

Thanks for the info. I checked their site but all they
carry is the 27256 eprom, not the 27512 that the pk232 and mfj1278 need.

I may have to try and put together the eqpt to burn an eprom on my own if I can find the wa8ded load on the internet.

I thought the WA8DED firmware was for the TAPR TNC.  I suspect it won't work in the PK232MBX.  I don't think the HDLC chip is the same; I'll dig up my PK232 manual and see what they use in it. (Is there some new WA8DED firmware available that is for the PK232?)

I have a copy of the old WA8DED firmware but it is for the 27256, not the 27512 (of course, it will fit in a 27512). And it's for an HDLC chip that is no longer available.

BTW I can burn an EPROM for you if you need it; I just need to know what firmware is to go into it.

Thank you very much for the reply.

While I have not found a wa8ded load for the pk232, I have found something called TheFirmware or something like that name which has wa8ded compatibility built in. It was developed in Europe. One of the sites I found on it talked about burning the image in on the first half of the eprom.

If you can burn the chip that would be great. I have some 27C512 chips on order. Let me see if I can get a copy of the software load and I will get back with you. If you could send me your email address (send to ab0wr@arrl.net), I'll get in contact with you when I know more.

Thanks and 73,
