Good Morning All and thanks for the chance to join the group. I got a Radio Shack PR95 hand held scanner for Christmas and am having trouble understanding how to program it or what things are. I hope someone can help because my local Radio Shack is of little support.

1. My local PD uses T for trunking in the scanner book. I can't get the frequencies to program in under trunking when I push trunking. I can get them programmed in if I do it manually where both low and high band channels are programmed. However many times I only hear one side of the conversation. Do I need trunking or even need to fool with that key?

2. I see comments in this group about programming the scanner. What does that do for me? How do I do it?

3. Do I need to upgrade the antenna for better reception?

Thanks all in advance.

I have had a PRO-93, a PRO-2053 and a PRO-95 and love them.....but only after a learned of the freeware that allowed you to program the scanner off your PC.  If you check on http://www.starrsoft.com/ there is freeware written by Don Starr to manage the scanner and there is a Yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PRO-93_95/
which is made up of PRO 93/95 users that exchange tips, mods, frequency lists, et al.

Hope this helps with your success and enjoyment of the PRO-95.

Call a few of your local shacks and see if they have the scancat lite software and if they are able to program your locals. We recently rolled out a program to program scanners with the computers in our stores. Alternatively, if you know any one who has one thats programmed they are very easy to clone.

  Hi there; there are numerous resources for help on the PRO95.  You didn't mention where you are (city/state will do), so we'll just wing it with PRO95 specific info;
  Check out and/or join the following URLs:

http://www.pro-95.info/

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PRO95/

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PRO-93_95/

http://www.starrsoft.com/freeware/Win95/default.asp

  The Yahoo groups will no doubt have files that can be used by the Win95 program. Programming the scanner in this way will be a big help as I understand it's much simpler to do with Win95 then it is by hand.
  Now if you would say where you are, I might be able to find a Yahoo group for a scanning-related mailing list for your area.  They too might have Win95 data files you could use.
  The PRO95 Yahoo groups can also tell you about which antenna(s) they found that worked well.  User groups such as these are an invaluable source of information.
  Don't be discouraged if someone says they have a file for a PRO92 or 93.  Don Starr (the author of Win95) has a nifty file converter that will migrate most of the data from the 92 or 93 to a 95.  It's called WinXX Data Converter. Here's the URL (and I hope this doesn't wrap)...
