Well, if I purchase a radio for $1000 then the wife says "if you can affort to spend $1000 for the radio then you can afford to give me $1000 for a new outfit." That means I end up paying $2000 for a $1000 radio

My wife doesn't operate that way. I buy a lot of golf equipment during the season and she never says "Well you just bought a $450 driver so I want to buy $450 in clothing"

Agreed. Every big dollar item I purchase I tell her about or she knows ahead of time. Little purchases, usually under $100, she does not care. She does the same for me.
