Eham.net ran an article in March 2002 by James Benedict N8FVJ, 'HF Receivers - Best by Price'.  James (or others) - any updates now for Sept 2004?  I'd especially like to know the best cw rigs.

Look at the reviews on the TenTec OMMNI VI+ or OMNI VI Mod 3.

Also the TenTec ORION is reviewed in January 04 QST.

It's really hard to beat a new Yaesu Mark V Field for $1750. It's not the Orion, but man for the price you get a lot.

If you want a CW rig there's only one choice. Ten Tec. In order, starting with the best:  Orion, Omni VI+ or VI Option 3, VI option 2 or 1, Omni VI, Omni V, preferably with N4PY's .9 chip, Paragon or Paragon II, Corsair II, Corsair, or a host of others.

And the qualities that make them the best CW rigs also make them among the best SSB/Data rigs.

The TEN TEC are among the best performing CW transaceivers. I like the OMNI V with cascaded CW filters for best QRM reduction.

An Icom 765.  Great reciever, in my mind, a "mega radio".  A great rig for its price.
