Hi Gang,

We recently acquired an IC-RP1210 repeater that we would like to put on line but we need to change the EPROM programming so the repeater ID's with one of our call signs. I was able to bring the EPROM to work and we were able to read the program on it, but it is all in HEX. All I need to do is change the existing call sign on this one to one of our call signs. I called Icom several times for assistance, but they will not return my call. Does anybody out there know how I can do this?

Thanx in advance

I've just always purchased a new EPROM from Icom for this.  It's about $20 and they program it with any callsign you want before they ship it.  Service takes about 2 days, in my experience.

I had them program and ship one to me only a few months ago.

Seems to me the same EPROM also sets the keying speed of the CW ID, so I think you have to tell them that, too...

Do you mean an IC-RP1210?  Depending on how the callsign is programmed, you may be able to do a text search for the old callsign if you can get the hex dump into a good hex editor.  I'm sure it's checksummed, though.

I have the manual for the IC-RP3100 (220 MHz) at home that I can check for an answer.  (I've never owned/seen one of these repeaters, I just own the manual...long story.)

Yes this is a IC-RP1210 REPEATER.I have tried looking at the programming with Hex Workshop & I can't make heads or tails of it. I tried looking for both CW characters & also the letters or characters that would repersent the letters of the call sign that is in it right now with no luck Here is what it looks like in HEX: I did a cut & paste from notepad for this

Not surprisingly, the service manual is mum on the topic.  The coding of the characters may not strictly be ASCII, but I bet it's alphabetical order.  So, you may be able to exploit that in hacking the codeplug.  But, the best option, if it's still available, is to just get the EEPROM from Icom.  It sounds like it's cheap enough that there's no reason for you to diddle with bits.
