twitter.com is one of new websites that has a sole purpose of setting your current status (in 190 characters or less).  It seems to become very popular with a "younger" generation.  It has a framework that allows to follow statuses of other people, search, set location, etc, as well as an API.

I thought, well this might be a perfect place to post the APRS message.  I wrote a perl script that parses my own packets from aprs stream and updates twitter. here is what came out:

http://twitter.com/uncle_ziba

I'm still trying to figure out if this is useful for anything.  At the very least this can be shown to a non-ham person without overloading them with the geeky technical stuff...  Any comments?

This is just the thing that would make me use twitter, as my Wife could use this 'user-friendly' front-end to see where I am in my car.

I would be very interested in the script you have used, to create this, and do something like this myself.

Regards,

Ian

I'd imagine a similar sort of Google Maps integration would be pretty straightforward.
If anyone's interested, I'll put something together.

I have two resources that make help others understand Twitter:

Here is an article about Twitter:

And here is a video about it as well (I recorded):

I am glad to help any ham using twitter.

Hi,
I live near Nashville, TN and TDOT is placing construction and accident info on twitter at 511Nashville.  Do you think these notices could be ported to APRS and would it be worth it?
