Who made the very bad decision to list the Elmers forum topics in order of most recent response?

That guarantees two things:

1. Serious, meaningful questions, which typically get few answers, are doomed to obscurity.

2. The bitching, nitpicking, fighting and thoughtless commentary will constantly dwell at the top inviting more of the same.

Good grief!

I have to side with the old system and agree with the origional poster.  Last replied on top is not my favorite system.

But then, the boss of the board did not ask my opinion on the matter.

To the original poster---

Send the boss an Email letting him and or her know what you think--with respect of course.

Personally I like it. It makes it a whole lot easier to locate the latest responses. I'm surprised though how many people seem to have the time to scroll through 20 pages of old stuff to post a response to a thread that hasn't seen any activity for two months :-)

So Graham, are you just going around picking your favorites and bumping them to the top?

If a topic interest you, subscribe to it (up there on the right or at the top of the text box in a reply).

Then you just need to check the top billings for new interesting topics and avoid the chaff.

Playing with the forum is not the answer, IMO.

Go chime in over here:

http://www.eham.net/forums/SiteTalk/1747

I don't like it either, at least not as the default.  You're not alone.

But as K5TR says:

" I think we will also be adding some sorting features much like we have the reviews area to the forums as well soon."

I really like the new sorting as an option.  I don't like it as the only game in town, but bumping stuff up from December, etc, on purpose is not a useful thing.

Let's get out of Elmers page 30 and back on Page 1.

Dear Dan,

That's exactly my point.

Yeah, well this is the wrong way to do it, in my opinion.

I appreciate your point, but I don't think this is productive.

The only people who gripe, bitch and moan more than amateur radio operators are amateur photographers.

I also notice that some of the people complaining the most are the ones posting to old threads the most, forcing them to the top of the pile.

It says at the top of the Elmers forum..... "You are currently viewing the most recently created topics in the Elmers forum."

One of these topics was created in 2000, nine years ago, not exactly recent!

It appears this format will turn into a game of who can bring the most oldest and irrelevant topic back to page 1.

If we're patient, we'll get our choice of viewing formats.

If we thrash the forum with irrelevant promotion of topics, the webmasters will probably have to deal with that first instead of making steps forward to adding nice little arrows like in the reviews section.
