Help with License Proof

Hello All,  I am looking for some help to prove I had a Tech License before 1987 (For upgrade purposes).  I am a Tech Plus now because I passed the Code and Theory test somewhere back in 1982 or 1983,  so I am looking for proof from a Callbook in the 1983 - 1986 timeframe for my upgrade application.  Can anyone out there with old Callbooks help ?   I am N5EID.  Thanks !!!!!!!!

the 'lookup' shows you to be valid until
Jan-2007.   I, too, have a  Tech-Plus from
'86 and just a month ago began my renewal.

 you need to  "register/signup" and be
 assigned a  FRN# by the ULS
 (it 'requires' your SS#, Online or On paper)
 and once you have it,
 you can  "associate"  any/all licenses
 that you have or have (commercial) responsibility
 ...  Then within 90-days of expiration,
 you can  login and  request/update your profile
 and be  ReNewed.
 I spent more time fretting about it than
 it took to do it.  had the paper from FCC
 in about 2+ weeks.
 Their system knew I was a  Tech-Plus
 and my upgraded license has
  "License Class Converted per 97.21a3"

 which documents your 5wpm AND Novice+Tech
 license... pre-realignment.
 The FCC online system will let you print
 a  "License copy", for documentation purposes.

He needs documentation showing he was licensed as a Tech prior to March 21, 1987, in order to receive credit for elements 1 & 3 and receive a paper upgrade to General.

A license showing Tech Plus or Tech "License Class Converted per 97.21a3" is not sufficient.

I'm not sure where they get the info but AE7Q website shows you have 5 wpm code.

Thanks,  That is me ....   Didn't realize I had my License that long.  I guess that for FCC purposes, I need a copy of the callbook dates and my entry in the book. Is the information you have from a Hardcopy ....    Thanks for looking this up !!!!

Hmmm. excuse me.  Kindly direct me to the "docs"
as to how this works...  I got my  Novice/5wpm
"ticket" back in the spring of '86
and soon upgraded to Technician.  I do not recall
if I took my  "General exam" or not, but I never
got the 13wpm test...  Is that how I got "Tech+" ?

Does this mean that "older elements" can now
qualify as a 'General' ??  where can I read-up?
(another  Tech+ buddy of mine and I were planning
 to study-up for an upgrade...) now, I'm not
 sure what I have...
Does the "converted.. 97.21a3" still give me
the  Novice/HF/CW(ssb) privalege ??

The Grandfather Credit information is at http://www.arrl.org/arrlvec/grandfather.html.

So, you will need to find proof that you took the Technician exam prior to March 21, 1987.

vanityhq.com shows your license as first being issued on 2/25/1986.  The next entry shows Tech on 5/19/1987.  However, the vanityhq.com records may not be correct.  If you did upgrade to Tech on 5/19/1987 then it looks like you would not be able to receive credit for Element 3.

The "converted.. 97.21a3" would still give you current Tech Plus privileges.  Section 97.21(a)(3) states: "Application for renewal of a Technician Plus Class operator/primary station license will be processed as an application for renewal of a Technician Class operator/primary station license."

Per the Grandfather Credit above "An original Technician license document or copy with the following statement printed on the license under Special Conditions/Endorsements, "License Class Converted Per 97.21a3"" would give you code credit when you go to take the General exam.

The FCC rules spell out the credits you can get and they are also summarized on the ARRL website.

In all cases below, you must present adequate proof.

If you ever held a Novice license (in this case it is good even if expired) = Element 1 credit.

Tech issued before March 21, 1987 = Elements 1, 2 & 3 credit.  Go get that paper upgrade for General.  Just need to present adequate proof at a VE session, fill out the paperwork, and pay the session fee.

Tech issued after March 21, 1987 but before the no-code tech option became available = Element 1 & 2 credit.

Tech no-code = Element 2 credit only

Tech+/Tech with code issued before the 2000 restructuring = Element 1 and 2 credit.

Tech with code issued after the 2000 restructuring option = For upgrade purposes, only good for 365 days from the date of issue of the code CSCE for Element 1 credit.

I basically skipped Novice and went straight to TECH back in 1982,  so I took the Theory and 5wpm test at the same time.  So I think I am good, but since I do not have a copy of those old licenses,  I need the proof from and old callbook which shows me with a tech licenses back in the early 80's.  Thanks to everyone for the information .

Gunny,  Thanks for the offer.  From what I read, if I can just get a copy of the cover of the book and then a copy of the page with my name / callsign & License Type, that should be sufficient. But it you would like to ship me the book,  that will be OK too ..  Let me know either way.  Thanks !!
