A preliminary outline of the course is available for viewing at

I liked the Terrorism Awareness slide show.  If you can certify this training, there is free training for responder, hazmat, and incident command.

Let me know how more I can help.

good course overall, a bit different than what i expected. it is a refreshing look at traffic. a few changes might be in order. the reason i say this before the change is this:
in a real emergency net, most everyone is on a rush and needs to have a method of passing a very l;arge amount of traffic in short order( almost all your traffic will be high presidence traffic at first) with this in mind i would reccomend than when necos calls a station to pass traffic he/she should be specific as to what to pass( example. kb4ppy call w4 xyz and pass one priority out.) this will let both stations knopw what to pass and what is comming, next step is the receiving station give his/her call sign, this lets the necos and the sending station that he/she is ready to copy and can hear the sending station, then the sending stations passes the one priority, after fills and when the receiving station has 100% copy he/she would simply state his/hers call sign with the word "out" this keys necos that:
a: the traffic is passed
b: that the net is returned to him/her

this method cuts down on air time by as much as 40% and allows you to control the traffic flow.
(a note CONTROL is the key element in any net, the more "wiggle room" you have in a procedure the more problems you have controling the net) this method works very well in other circuits throughoput the world, and it has a proven track record.

just some thoughts.

over all i rate the course as an "a"

First i would like to say that you guys in VA. are on the ball with training material and courses.  The level of ability is another story, the course is the begining and not the end, with this in mind ALL station who are involved with ECOM  MUST train on a very regular basis. This means passing traffic every week of so as a minimum, the longer period between exercises the more mistakes and lax the system gets. Most ARES/RACES do not provide much in the training field, and very little if any follow up. I have had  to pass traffic on these nets, from other nets. It is nothing less than an exercise in frustration. Many operators do not even know the basic pro words ( break, message follows, say again etc)  and this makes paassing anything a very long and labor intensive project.
Training is the key, and follow up is the only way top ensure your ready, it's the the IF,  it is the WHEN

What is wrong with posting a URL that links TO THE MATERIAL BEING REFERED TO rather than a laundry list of other "stuff"?

The URL should be:

http://varaces.org/training.php
http://varaces.org/adv-training.php <-- HF Here

 9/18/04 Training: http://varaces.org/9-18-04.php
10/16/04 Training: http://varaces.org/10-16-04.php

The key mission statements of VA RACES Inc:

A)   No requirement to be a member of ARRL
B)   No charges for training since 1997

The way it should be...
