As KE4SKY pointed out, there's plenty of Ecomm training available for free without having to go through the ARRL.  I recently attended a Ecomm class that was spaced over 3 separate Saturdays and was based off of a program from Colorado ARES. There is no reason why something such as this could not be accepted as a standard for group training in place of the ARRL courses.
Quit making excuses and either put up or shut up.

The Emcomm training in Tennessee FREE. The cost to take the Emcomm Test is $10.00. Part of the $10.00 goes to your local ARRL VE Team. The other part goes to the ARRL. I would believe this would not cover the processing and postage cost incured by the ARRL.

Ok I have to ask how is Emcomm free in Tenessee? I do understand the original aurgument. Why should voluteers have to pay for training for something that is not required by the government? The answer is that we should all take it even if it's not required. Yes the ARRL gets their money out of it but it is a quality class. Level one is $30 to complete self study. This includes the testing. Should we be forced? I don't know because they just added a management nightmare and what about non-ARES voluteers. The other aurgument could be made that it doen't go far enough. Isn't most EOC's net controls? That training is in level 2.

Me personnally? i am taking all three levels and enjoying a good book!!
