I asked how to build a 12V rotor a while back and was told i could use a windshield motor , can someone give me instructions.

Is this for Mobile use. Just wondering why you want to use 12v.

Yes it is for the blazer. That will be for when we are camping,ham gatherings , bbq's and the like. Thought it would be nice.

Unless you have some machine shop capabilities it is probably easier to get a small 120V inverter to power a regular rotor. I think the job is too complex for anyone to explain in detail how to build one in a forum.

Having tried using an AC powered rotator with an inverter for portable ops, I can tell you that some inverters are INCREDIBLY electrically noisy when operating.  I found that I had to turn on the inverter when I wanted to use the rotator then turn it off to be able to hear anything over the hash from it.  No amount of filtering or ferrites was able to improve the situation.  So, be forewarned and choose wisely.

You had a crappy inverter.  The good ones aren't noisy at all.

I have a 1500W inverter in my motor home (standard equipment, came with it) that doesn't make a peep anywhere in the HF or VHF spectrum, even when using sensitive receivers connected to antennas mounted right on the motor home.

I have noted that the "cheapie" inverters ($99 specials) can generate quite an RF racket.  The good ones are pseudo sine wave output, very well filtered, and shielded, and don't.

hi roy,

not sure how much antenna you want to turn.

a used computer UPS that you can feed with 12vdc
will give you AC to make a rotor happy.
you can turn the ups off and on as needed to use the rotor.

First what is a UPS? Secong that would be great! I wouldn't be turning nothing more then a small beam during camping or ham gatherings. I was told you can use a windshield wiper motor , but i thini it would be way to fast and i wouldn't be able to stop it where i want.

some of the older ones (larger is physical size) are full sine wave.

or you can just use the armstrong method to turn the beam.
