<< Not to despair! My Wife has taken up knitting and is making custom MARS caps for each radio. >>

Give your wife a BIG kiss for that! Smiley

Good women like that are hard to find!

Merry Christmas.

BTW, if you are ever looking for an extra net to check into, the 3W1B meets nightly on NCI at 1900L. It would be good to hear some voices from the old Region TWO.

Actually, there are a fair number of amateur products that are currently on the NTC's list of compliant equipment, e.g.: FT-1000D and FT-990.  Most require an accessory TCXO, however.  Its interesting that the same entity covers MARS and CAP (read: NTIA), yet only CAP has chosen to "shoot itself in the foot" by the carte blanch application of the entire suite of NTIA specifications.  If the DOD is funding the equipment, fine that's the law, but unlike the MARS programs,  CAP volunteers with comm assets are being shut out, unnecessarily.

not all true, the requirement for hf is there 12 hours/quarter, the other 4 for the total of 18/quarter may be anything else. VHF doe count tword the 4 hours.
no VHF does not get you the total but it does count.

Yes we do have nets on VHF, not much traffic but we pas trafic and messages, notes etc.

Actually, most CAP radios are bought by the federal gov't; owning your own radio is optional so it makes a little more sense for us to have to follow the standards. We have a lot of Motorola Astros in service, and the vast majority of those are corporate-owned.

Now they're talking about making us do ALE; I'll drink it as long as it's cold Smiley
