I bought some new #47 6.3 volt bulbs from Radio Shack and I was told that they will no longer be supplying them anymore. I checked True Value and they no longer stock them as well, and I was told they are now obsolete. Does anyone else know were I can still get these bulbs?

Antique Radio (or is it Electronic) Supply in Arizona has them.  I bought some last week.  I am sure others have them to.  I really don't see the world running out of #47 bulbs any time soon.

You can get them from Mouser Electronics, Radio Daze,
RF Parts, All Electronics, and many other
electronic part's outlet stores on the Internet.

There are LED replacements for the #47 lamps. I have
never used them so I can't comment one way or the
other.

depending on Radio Shack for parts
is a dead end

Radio shack is pretty much phasing out all of thier parts and radio related stuff. I have a friend that works at the local Radio Shack, and she says in a couple of years they will only be selling cell phone and MP3 player stuff.. It kinda makes you wonder why they still call themselves Radio Shack?

I havent given up yet in finding a local supplier of the bulbs. There are a few old time hardware stores around, and a few of them are run by Amish so they usually stock oddball stuff no one else has in stock.

For electronics not stocked by Mouser or Digi-Key, see also:
Newark   http://www.newark.com/
Allied   http://www.alliedelec.com/
Sager   http://www.sager.com/
Gopher   http://www.gopherelectronics.com/
Future   http://www.futureelectronics.com/
etc.

Also, industrial supply houses may carry common miniature bulbs:
W. W. Grainger   http://www.grainger.com/
McMaster-Carr   http://www.mcmaster.com
MSC http://http://www.mscdirect.com/
etc.

For bulbs in particular:
Don's Bulbs   http://www.donsbulbs.com/
Bulbtown   http://www.bulbtown.com/
Specialty Bulb   http://www.bulbspecialists.com/
etc.

Or go to manufacturers sites and find a distributer:
Chicago Miniature Lamp
GE Lighting / GE Miniature
Osram Sylvania
Philips Lighting

Fortunately the #47 was a very common type.

I found a vendor on Ebay who sells them for pinball machines. I bought a "lifetime" supply cheap.

I find myself shopping less and less at Radio Shack. The #47 bulbs i got their last week were cheap chinese bulbs that sold for 2 for $2.99 . Look at the profit for the junk they sell , it probably cost them 10 cents a bulb to make. Likewise , they also have the crummiest overpriced bananna jacks.Real junk and not even a decent description as to wire size ,pin spacing or anything else. Its back to the hamfests for me! Made out really well at the last one and got QUALITY ,MADE IN USA PARTS!
