Hi everyone,
i am travelling to Germany in a week, and i just wanted to know, if I can take my HT with me in my luggage, or if this is not allowed. My mobile rig will be in one of my bags in its original package surrounded by cloth, so I think I won't have to worry about it that much.
Thanx,

I travel a great deal, both domestically and internationally, and have never had any problem with packing an HT in luggage, or a carry-on, or even having it clipped to my belt.  They'll scan it either way, and might even ask you to turn it on (like they often do with cellphones/PCS phones) to verify it's a radio and not something else.  Just in case they do ask for the "power on" demo, have a charged battery pack available!

Bon voyage

You shouldn't have any problems.

Last week I took loads of electronics to Denmark by
way of London. No one even blinked though I was sure
they would.

I had a laptop, Palm Pilot, GPS, Kenwood D7A(g),
multiple batteries, cell phone, pager, wires to
connect just about everything in every combination,
laser pointer, flash light, etc.

All they asked was that I take out my laptop and run
it through the xray machine separate from the rest
of the laptop bag (I assume so that the laptop would
not block the xrays and they could see all the way
through the bag).

If ever there was a suspicious looking bag, it was
mine. In four different airports (Orlando, Newark,
London (Gatwick) and Kobenhavn (Kalstrip)), I never
was I even pulled aside for further checks.

I haven't travelled in a while but I NEVER put a valuable electronic device in my luggage. #1..the airport apes throw stuff around like it wasnt worth a dime.  #2 ... airlines wont be responsibile if one of the airport apes steals something from the luggage. Be safe and carry it aboard. Have fun in Germany. It is a fun place to have a 2 meter radio. Been there, done that and highly recommend it.
