Echolink Secure system?

I have been approached over the last few days by several hams concering the security in ones computer while using echolink. As I am not that knowledgable about the system all comments to this subject would be greatly appreciated.

A PC connected to the internet is only as secure as it's firewall. EchoLink or not, if you're not running a firewall, you could be in for a lot of trouble. I have nothing but good things to say about ZoneAlarm(http://www.zonealarm.com). There is a free version that you can download from their site. Virus protection software is also a must these days.

My EchoLink station is running on its own, dedicated PC. Nothing is installed except Win98SE and EchoLink (along with firewall and virus protection). If a hacker gets in, he won't get much.

Actually Bill I have a Game machine that doesnt do anything but play games then I have a real old compaq that I run strictly VOIP software with local dial usually 3 differant application and run smoothly hold nets and everything no problem

How did you setup Zonealarm to work for Echolink? I'm thinking about getting it. I'm just curious to how easy it would be.

I just installed EchoLink on my PC. I had no trouble configuring my router to allow UDP and TCP packets through to my PC, but do I have to drop the Internet Security level to allow the unsolicited packets through to my PC?
