Extremelly loud Static Noise from AC lines. QRN !

Hellllppppp Just recently I started to hear an S9 noise level at it's highest range in the 14 mhz area. It tapers off in both directions. So - I can no longer operate on 20 meters (CW)/.

I use an 817 QRP and a stealth long wire as I live in a condo.

I traced this new noise to my AC lines, and assume it comes from Con Edison..

What can I do about this??

This doesn't sound like Con-Ed to me.

I'd start looking with an AM radio or ham rig with a coax loop antenna and start looking for the real problem. It could be anything from a touch controlled lamp to a bad door bell transformer. If you are sure it is Con-Ed, call them. I'm sure they are very aware of the FCC's recent clamp down on electrical induced noise.

AC lines were man made last time I checked... or did they start growing somewhere in the jungle???

A noise canceller might help if it is truly QRM and coming from a SINGLE SOURCE. Check out the AES catalouge for the "Timewave ANC-4".

read my dittie in the rfi forum about halogen lights and try turning off and unplugging any and all halogen low voltage lighting the switching power supplies are awful noise generators!
