what's the better choice: 500Hz or 250Hz? Who has experience?

That is up to you. I prefer the 250 Hz but it is narrow (!) and maybe too much so for your listening enjoyment. If Steve (WB2WIK/6) were answering this, he'd tell you to buy the 500 Hz and use your ears to pull out the weak ones. If you can, go to your dealer and listen to both and pick the one you like best.
