Looking for Feedback on both Radios. Simply Put:
If you had Only Two Choices, an Icom 746 0r an Icom 706 MKIIG, Which Radio would you buy? To make the comparison fair, leave out the following facts:
440mhz band and the size of the Radio. Assume both Rigs are in perfect cosmetic and electrical condition.
Thanks for your help

The 746 is the better of the two. You get what you pay for.

For home station use, the IC-746, hands down.

I own both and the 746 is a very good base station radio, but too large for most mobile appications. The 706 is great for mobile use. But a direct comparison can't be made fairly. Both have DSP, but in different parts of their circuitry. If you had the room, and you have the extra cash, I'd still suggest buying the 746 for mobile as the 706 has a steep learning curve; it is much more reliant on menus than the 746.

I've got both, too.  The 746 is easier to operate, and the screen is much easier to read.  Tuner is nice, too.
The 746 is too big for a car, so if it is staying home, play with the 746 over the 706.

I have both rigs (IC746PRO & IC706MKIIG) and have this to offer. The 706G has been around about five years and has the bugs worked out. You see very few postings from hams having problems with their "G". BUT, the IC746PRO is a whole 'nother story. You see quite a few postings from hams having problems with this rig. (including myself) The TX died on mine after 4.5 months. It took five weeks to get it back. (It cost me $66.00 S&H) Hope this info is of use to you. However, I have no first hand knowledge of the plain IC746. Just the "PRO" model.
