Our club will teach the Boy Scout Radio Merit Badge next January.  Does anyone know of a list of famous hams?  Also, a list of contributions that hams have made to daily life/science?  Thought that we would use this for a "did you know" to generate excitement.
Thanks and 73, Dave KV4CN

The ARRL Web site used to have a list, but I haven't seen it since the redesign. You might be able to find it, but in the meantime, here's another:

Good luck!

Clarification:

The link to Famous Hams and ex-Hams

http://www.nerc.com/~gjurrens/famous_hams.html

has moved...relevant links are now at:

http://users.tellurian.com/gjurrens (Home page)
http://users.tellurian.com/gjurrens/famous_hams.html
http://users.tellurian.com/gjurrens/astrohams.html
ARRL Article about Famous Hams site:  http://www.arrl.org/news/features/2003/07/04/1/

We believe this to be the largest and most accurate collection of biographical links regarding hams and ex-hams, astronauts, cosmonauts, etc. in the world...often imitated, but never equaled (since the early '80's)!

73 and all the best to you in 2004!
