I was thinking about getting the Icom V8000, and wanted to use it has a base station.  It runs on DC power so is the only thing i need to do is getting a power inverter?  Thanks.

The radio runs on DC, so you will need to purchase a power supply for it.  I currently have my IC-V8000 powered by a MFJ-4125 25 Amp Switching Power Supply, however there are many others that will do the job quite well.
